Can someone peak at something for me?

Hello all,

My front bumper cover is not staying on properly. The top edge does not seat all the way in. I am two hours from shop and am waiting until April for a trip out there.

I tried to reseat it but there appears to be something in the way under the bumper cover. I took the screws off the bottom to free up the bottom edge but that did not help. I looked in the Tow Bar access port and can see this padding between the metal bumper and the heavy plastic part of the bumper. This may be in the wrong place???

Second and third photo shows the 'snap-in' spots that do not engage.

I think the bumper cover has to come off completely to fix this issue. I am on the fence about DIY. I think there are just two bolts under the wheel liner on each side like other model 5 series bumper covers.

To remove the cover you push on the top edge of it by the little arrow, and it snaps out.

Thanks for the input.
Mike

I checked an I did not see that webbing inside the tow hook opening on my car. Something's out of place behind your bumper cover that's causing it not to seat properly.

Thanks for all the input. I spoke with dealer. That white strap is supposed to be a strap that you can use to tow the car (in loo of the tow hook), and is not supposed to be stuck in between these parts. Mystery solved. Getting it straightened out in April.

The problem is with the the middle section of the bumper cover between the head lights (below the Kidney's) which does not engage the snaps in the frame of the Kidneys. See the photo above. The tabs will not stay engaged with the clip points because something is not letting the bumper cover seat in all the way.

I spoke with my repair shop today. The rep was actually at some BMW convention this week and he was discussing my car with the head collision guy. They are trying to figure out a better repair method for the particular damage my car had that will no require the entire car being taken apart.

I'll know more when the bumper cover comes off, and will post more photos for future reference.

I pulled on that strap a bit and it does move, but does anyone know if this strap is something which gets pulled out to some particular length to actually use it??

The strap is to meet crash safety standards. It runs from a crash box on each corner behind the bumper. If you hit something on the right front, the strap pulls on the left side to absorb some of the impact.
