I had a f10 550i Msport with Dinan S2 and it was more aggressive looking than the F90 M5 (not better in any way though). F90 M5 just looked too sedate and not as fast as the ZL1 (other than AWD situations). I also had a Gen V Viper GTS at the same time. Perhaps something was wrong with your ZL1? Did you have a M6? (Doesn't matter in any event).

Anyway, let's agree to disagree rather than sully this thread. Enjoy your M5! It is a great car.
No my Z was great. My buddy has another 18 ZL1 so we go at it. You have the torque and HP advantage (till I chip it lol) but not the traction or 4 wheel power. ZL1 is a brute for sure. M5 Comp is a Swiss Army knife. Cheers.

No ditch here, lease was up of my '16 550i Xdrive M-sport. However, I was ecstatic that I was finally able to get an M5 as a DD since it's AWD!

Trading 2018 RR Sport SC for 2019 M5 Comp

I’m about to trade my RR Sport Supercharged Dynamic for a 19 M5 Comp. I really love the RR other than the computer system in it. However, I’m ready for something new... I know you all are going to be insanely biased, but has anyone come from a RR sport supercharged to the new M5s?

I ditched my 1 yr old G30 540i M sport to get the F90 Comp. Getting the F90 Comp wasn't planned nor intended. Things sorta fell together and the F90 Comp became a reality. Nice surprise I must say. Loving the car so far.

Traded my RS7 for a RR Velar FE, which turned out to be the biggest car-buying mistake I’ve ever made. The RR Velar was an awful car, very problematic, poor build quality, and had to go back to dealer service for 6 unscheduled visits in less than a year to address several issues which even until the last day I had it remained unresolved. I finally traded it in for the M5C a couple of months ago and it’s like I got my RS7 back, but even better in many ways! Good riddance to the Velar, for it has soured my perception of the Land Rover/Range Rover brand. The M5C is an incredible car and has been flawless so far (knock on wood).

Turbo upgraded e63s...miss it for what it was, but digging the m5 so far. Really wanted a 991.1 gt3, and found a certified one in mint shape , but Porsche wouldn't do me right on the trade...bmw did. So, I'll drive the doors off of this thing for a bit, and see where we land.

Not surprised by what you're telling me. I bought my 18 RR Sport SC in May of 18. I've had it in the shop at least 5 times for computer issues. Most recently it was in the shop for a new air compressor for the air suspension and a new antenna for the key fobs that randomly quit working (10,062 miles). During the two weeks they had it I wondered over to the Porsche dealer to look at a Panamera GTS and over to BMW only to find a M5 comp on the show room floor. I got in it and instantly wanted the car. Can't say that I felt that way with the Panamera. Long story short I worked a trade deal out with the RR sight unseen as it's still sitting at the dealer for the warranty work haha. I put a deposit down to hold it until the RR got finished and until I could get back from Costa Rica. Just got back today and will be headed over to the RR dealership tomorrow to pick up the vehicle, then headed for a quick run to the stereo shop to pull some equipment, and off to the BMW dealership to pick up the new whip. I did love the looks of the RR and it was fun to drive but I believe I'll truly enjoy the M5 better. Can't wait to get it!

Out with the old and in with the new!!!

wait, what? in what world is the f90 faster than a zl1? And how does a comp car handle better? and how does a turbo car have better "instant on" performance over a 6.2 car with a supercharger?

this comp pack thing is really getting to peoples' heads. wow.

Everything you stated is true. ZL1 def has better instant grit but stock for stock they're not as far off as you think just cause of the power/weight numbers. Put good tire on a stock A10 ZL1 and the best 1/4 it's running is 10.9 at 126/127 with good DA. I've seen a stock F90 Comp run 10.8 @ 129/130 and the difference was it was doing consistent 10's all day long. Now to the highway, 40-140 the M5C edges it and 60-140 the ZL1 has it by a half car/car depending on driver.. obviously the higher you go the Z will pull cause of the aero and power difference but 625/553- 4300 lbs vs 650/650 3800 lbs, that's impressive as a motherfucker. Even more so considering the 10 speed is in the ZL1 and not that pathetic 8 speed they put in the Z06. ZF 8 speed is king but that 10 speed keeps you in the powerband all day long. Win for the M5C

The ZL1 0-60 time is 3.5 seconds. The m5Comp is 2.7 seconds. The ZL1 1/4 mile is 11.4 seconds. M5 Comp 1/4 mile time is sub 11s, 10.8 or better. And I can promise you the 4 wheel drive of the M5 handles far better than the 2WD of the ZL1, unless you want to drift. Also I pick up no turbo lag in my car. Zero (which surprised me as the former owner of 2 supercharged cars). And neither have multiple testers so yes it compares favorably with a supercharged rig.

So you ask in what world is the M5 Comp faster and handle better than a ZL1?

The real world.

Straight line sprints the F90 will probably take it every time due to more predictable AWD launches. But on a road course, it'll be closer depending on the track. At the 'Ring, the 1LE variant of the ZL1 will handily lap faster, as it likely also would in many other tracks. Non-1LE ZL1 would probably be more evenly matched.

So depends what your definition of "Faster" is. Faster at the 1/4? Faster around the Nordschleife? Faster around COTA? Road America? Laguna Seca? Actually, the 1LE probably wouldn't pass noise restrictions at Laguna lol

Another reason: The M5 and ZL1 likely have far closer power numbers than advertised.

Sold my modded F10 M5 to a young military officer that just had to have it. This is my third M5. It is better than the previous two by a country mile.
