Why did you get the F90? ..Share your story

Thought everyone could share the story behind your M5. Why did you get it? What was the motivating factor? Was it a dream car you waited for, or just something you fell into? Etc. Looking forward to your stories

Last year while searching for X5(Got model X Tesla instead lol) for the missus I saw M4Comp that mesmerized me.Then changed search to M3 My wife said I'm too big for that car, 6'0 240 lbs so I changed search for M5 which I resisted at first because of the price, but I caved and pulled trigger and have been ecstatic ever since, best car I've ever owned by far. The honeymoon refuses to end Wifey is happy too.

Dream Car I always wanted but never spoiled myself. My wife and my daughters recently forced me to go with what I wanted. Because I have three daughters I wanted a five seater. I truly believe there is no greater 5 seater on the planet. My uncle had an M4 and when I told him I was looking at an M5 he was like that's too much horsepower- you don't need it. I let him have a spin and he took back everything he said. When someone asks me about my M5 I always tell them: I never enjoyed driving until now!

Last car was an F10 comp. needed a new car and wanted 4 wheel drive and always wanted a euro delivery. When I found out that the F90 had AWD, i placed my order and got it at BMW Welt in June. Amazing experience and amazing vehicle!

I've been wanting an M5 since the E60. Unfortunately with living in Canada a rear wheel drive car is just not practical. On the final months of my S63 lease i started looking for something a little smaller and MB dealer lent me an E63s for a couple days. Even though it was a great car i soon realized that it was not very comfortable when I wanted it be...on the last day with the E63s I just happened to drive my bmw dealership who was hosting a M day so I stopped by. They did not have an M5 to drive but as soon as I found out an all wheel M5 was coming I ordered it right away.

Had a nice X5M. Wanted a change. Didn't know how I would feel about going back to a sedan. Oh boy, how I can't imagine driving anything else now. What a car!!!

I lease a car for between 12 and 16 months... then I sell the lease and move on. I started this process many years back with the first F10 550xDrives. I progressed through M5, M5, M5, M6 GC , M6 GC, X5M, Audi RS7 Performance and finally an AMG E63S. The RS7 truly tugged on my heart strings for many reasons but never for the raw, tactile, mechanical, thrilling driving experience... so I tried the E63S. No doubt in mind, it's also a great car in so many ways and I'll probably go back for the GT 4-door at some point... but still not the same for me (<-- BMW fanboy, anyone!).

The X5M that preceded the RS7 started me on my 4WD journey teaching me that 600+ HP in a wet state requires 4WD (heck, 600hp by itself almost mandates it for acceleration), hence the RS7, then the E63S. Finally, the F90 M5 came out and I was once again drawn in by the raw, tactile, mechanical symphony... and then BMW threw in an exhaust that competes or blows away the competition... and here we are...

Great story! Curious - how would you choose between an M SAV like X5/6M and a sedan like M5/6?

Switched from M235ix to C63S Coupe in 2017.
Had so much trouble with the C63S (rattling, over 14 unplanned visits at the shop) so I returned it 2 years earlier as planned.

Wanted to go with M550d but got over 35% discount for the M5C so the decision wasn't that hard

I had my heart set on a 911 Carrera, either 4S or 2S. I went online and configured a car. I went to Porsche in Bellevue, WA, ready to order the car. It was very busy there. Instead of just looking around while waiting, I went to the reception desk and told the person that I was ready to order a car. I was told that someone would talk to me soon.

I waited. And waited. I checked at the front desk again. And waited. Finally, I told the front desk that I couldn't wait any longer, and so she took my name a phone number and said that someone would call me.

Three days later I get a text message. I tell the person that I have configured a car, give the configurator code, and the salesperson says great he'll get back in touch shortly, when can I come in, etc. I give the info and wait.

No contact for 5 days. I take the unusual step of sending a text back, asking what's up. I get apologies and a promise that he'll get right back to me. Nothing for the rest of the day.

The next day I go to the dealership again in person. Same routine, no one talks to me. I actually explain that I am ready to buy, have the configuration in the Porsche system, and don't need any financing. Nothing for 20 minutes.

Out of frustration -- especially since I am pretty sure I am the easiest possible customer that Porsche of Bellevue will see that entire week -- I drive to the BMW dealership and see Washington state's first F90 M5 (which is in frozen red), and the first one they have to sell, which is SG (non-comp). I buy it on the spot.

And boy, am I glad I don't have that 911. The M5 has definitely been the best car I could have right now. Lucky.

Not sure I get the question. Perhaps this answers it: the X5M was intended to be for my wife. We only kept it for 3 months since she decided it was too harsh-a-ride for her tastes... 315s on 21" wheels will do that to a truck.

My M3 lease was up, I ordered a Daytona violet M3 but had the opportunity to get the F90 instead and it was a no brainer .Was also between the F90 and the Carrera T. I Didn't want to wait for the carrera T. Couldn't be happier with my choice !

Wow! Our stories are very similar... I also came from a comp package F10 M5 and did a euro delivery in June of a FE F90 M5! I love that car and can't think of anything else to replace it with!

Tradition! Family man but love performance. Always been a P-car fanboy... but my first Mcar was the E60 and it won my heart- now like Apple iPhones and Rolex GMT's - as soon as there is a new model I am obsessed until i get it. 🙈 ha.

Last 3 M5's
