Off topic question.. how do you like the 991 Turbo? Is it compliant for a DD?

I don't have the 991 but used to drive 993 Turbo for DD, I think any Porsche Turbo is good for DD if you don't need space.

My M5 Comp seems to be more compliant over bad roads in regular sport suspension than comfort setting. It seems to bounce a bit much in comfort over bad roads but in sport setting it is more compliant and just absorbs the bumps fast and chassis is so good it just deals with it. Has anyone else had this same experience?

It also handled significantly better than my 550; in fact, I was surprised by just how much better the handling felt overall. It was very easy to put the car exactly where I wanted in sharp turns, which felt great and inspired confidence to push harder. Crazy fun...decided I had to have it.

I didn't test drive a regular M5 but the M5C felt so good that it really alleviated my concerns about its suitability as a DD.

Hope this helps.
I had a '16 as well, but it was an X-drive M-sport, so which exactly was yours? Mine didn't have run flats and I recall all run flats riding harsher, because of the reinforced rubber.

In absolute terms there is no doubt the M5C is harsher in in terms of ride quality for all of the reasons already cited (the review does a good job explaining the suspension differences between a Base M5 and the M5C).

It is great car for a driver that wants to feel more connected to to the road and wants more feedback via the less dampened suspension; while I love straight-line racing I also love autocross and can appreciate a car with less body roll and more feedback. This comes at the price that everyday driving is a bit harsher; you will feel more bumps and the more aggressive springs will rebound a bit more.

I recently drove my friend's Base M5 and, in my opinion, the M5C was noticeably more harsh even in comfort mode (in Sport and Sport+); I now have had the M5C for about a month so it was significantly more noticeable.

I'll conclude the way I started the post by saying that only "you" can decide what what is too harsh or too stiff.

I'll only add that you can always make suspension modifications to a Base M5 if you want a more aggressive set-up; I went this route on both of my F10 M5's which were Base Models.

If you're unsure, a Base M5 may work better for you.

Not sure if this confused you more or helped.

Good luck!
The C would be a deal breaker for me suspension wise, being in NYC metro area and all. My 20" setup on my M5 in comfort, is harsh enough, giving the quality of roads. I only go sport / sport plus on parkways and where I know side roads are pristine.

I have a 2016 550i xDrive with every option, including dynamic handling. The run flats are awful and the ride is ridiculously harsh over even small bumps. I've hit a few potholes so hard it disabled the collision system and I thought I broke the front axle. I am in Comfort+ 95% of the time.

The M5C was a much softer, smoother ride, and that's what pushed me over the edge toward the competition edition. I like the styling better, the steering feels really good, and I purposely went over some rough rode and was shocked at how much better it felt compared to my 550.

I'm in the city several times a week as well. I'm not at all convinced that the 10% stiffer springs make a huge diff over rough roads. I find the difference to be more pronounced in terms of "floatiness."

I take delivery in January. It possible that I could be bribed into a test ride for comparison purposes if there was steak involved...

Same here, but did you take the run flats as an option? I truly don't recall having them or my ride being that harsh.

Anyone in San Francisco? Trying to figure out if I should get Comp. Or Reg. What is your experience in the city?

The M-Sport package comes with 351M wheels and run flats.

Not yet. Thinking about the Orbit staggered 19s but sort of on the fence regarding getting 20s instead...

I guess I had them then! Are you aware that the Xdrive did not come w/ the M suspension? I had a similar experience to you, coming from JFK last winter. Hit an unavoidable crater on the Van Wyck, car slammed it so hard, that I recall lights coming on as well. I was astonised though, not to have bent a rim or blow tire. Run flats ride like S**t

I went w/ my stock 20s, cause it's a lease.

I remember the suspension debate...

I've blown several tires and my rims are constantly bent. Seriously...I can't keep straight rims on this thing, it's infuriating as it causes vibration.

I also hit "something" a few weeks ago that went straight through my tire AND rim, blowing a quarter sized hole in the center of the rim. Check these pics.

I think it might be cheaper and easier overall to just have a winter set and sell them at lease end, or keep them if I keep the car (which is likely.)

WOW! I found an old pic and I did have the run flats. Never blew or recall losing a tire though and I hit some nasty holes! Don't recall bent rims either, but who knows, might have been. Worst cars I ever had for rims / tires, was my the new 2010 E 550 4matic AMG and new 2012 CLS 550 4matic AMG. Those rims bent like pretzels! I find the M cars much more stout!

Great to know another Akl M5 driver!

I had a F10 for a brief while, and found F90 to be a little livelier, more communicative. which is very welcoming, but as a daily, and long distance, I’d personally not wanna get any more lively.

Hope you’re enjoying your M5C

I had the M550ix as well previous to the M5C and it was horrendous for ride quality. I don't know what they did but the suspension was so easily collapsible, it would sound like you hit the deepest, meanest pot hole every time you touched a bump. My M5C isn't even comparable. It is night and day better than the M550ix. BMW did something wrong there.

x2. I blew multiple tires - it was terrible. The low profile stock tires (on 20") with that terrible suspension setup was a nightmare on the M550ix. M5C is again - night and day a better ride.

Really wish i could drive both of these to determine which to get. I love the looks of the M5C and definitely want the better exhaust, but am worried about the ride

Im going to have to drive both as well as pretty much every review is telling me there is quite the difference in comfort.
I current have a 18 MY F80 M3 CP and starting to educate myself more on the F90 which if I opt for one will be my 12 M car.

I had originally planned on an E63 S after the M3 as I had the older 2015 model and absolutely loved it but much to my disappointment when I had a test drive in the new E63 the ride, even in the softest setting, was as harsh as my M3 ! Not what you buy this class of car for IMO.

Also wondering if better deals are going to be had because here in the UK dealers seem to be struggling to sell non CP cars ....
