Alcantara Airbag Cover
Phew. Man o man this thing is sweet! But I 100% do not recommend this as a DIY. Don't get me wrong jt only took me about 30 min. But what a bitch.
You have to jam a screw driver into the plastic to wedge under these metal clips and pry them up. The fear of damaging the leather on the oem cover, the bag underneath, and your hand was almost unbearable. But after getting throw them and a lot of sweat because these are thick metal clips that you are bending and requiring a hammer to bend back down mind you lol, I finally got them all open and slowly pulled the cover off. The airbag is housed inside the cover inside a plastic bag. There's a retaining plastic piece and then the explosive component that connects to the wires on the back side. Well needless to say I didn't know all these parts would just come apart once you get the cover off but that's exactly what happened. So I had to use some brain cells to figure out how it all went back together. Luckily I used a sharply at the start to mark the bottom of the cover with the metal frame so I knew where to put the new one back. And some other sharpie marks along the way on the inside helped a lot. Never the less this is the final product. Took about a month to come on after ordering and as usual the company uses a Chinese entity because that's where it shipped from. But it looks great and the stitching is spot on. Only complaint is the alcantara doesn't perfectly match the Autotechnic alcantara trim but not surprised by this based on my recent experience with that company. Good news is it matches the oem alcantara perfectly. Maybe a little more "furry" looking that oem but the color is perfect. Guess I have to locate an oem steering wheel trim piece now. Haha Lighting wasn't great so I'll have to get more in the sun.

very nice.
i have CF paddle shifters and steering wheel trim just like yours coming from RW Carbon, I read you don't have to remove the steering wheel to replace those parts, is that really true or just easier to take the wheel off? |

Trim no but paddles I want to say yes as there is a screw hidden behind the paddles but I may be thinking of my X5. I would just Google a video of someone breaking it down and you'll see if it does.

You just put it in the notes or something. It tells you in the directions.
