It's because people misunderstand how modern systems like the JB4 work and presume it's like some 1980s piggyback they have experience with. The DME is always running the tuning of the vehicle even with a JB4 installed. The piggyback just alters the DME's behavior so it's targeting a slightly higher boost target along it's factory mapped out tables. The JB4 isn't actually doing the tuning the DME continues to do all tuning!

Nod, you're very possibly correct. I've been explaining it for years and yet they're still treated by so many as only slightly more credible than gas station octane booster.
