While I understand the principles of ICEs, I have little to no experience with practical hands-on work and, logically I guess, I know even less about the physics of tuning them. I will take a few calculated & progressive risks tweaking values/thresholds where I think I've grasped a sufficient understanding of risk:reward. From there and through logging and seat-of-the-pants assessment, I know what works for me in terms of products/support/preferences/etc. as well as where tinkering yielded an up side.

I'm currently tinkering with map 6's boost-by-RPM and the ability to subtract a fixed value from the boost target in the lower gears (newer firmware enabled that).

So, I was wondering: for folks with a F90 and a JB4, what did you find works best for you; for say max perf in DD situations or some other goal?

It always depends on the fuel being used and modifications to the vehicle.

Of course, that goes without saying.

One possible answer could be "downpipes on 93 octane using map 6 with a flat 23psi; 1st gear at -2 for traction."

I'm not looking for principles, I'm interested in other folks actual examples with their JB setup and mods.

// EDIT: preferably examples that embrace the engineering principles and limitations such as fuel.

need more of these discussions going in the group.

op- whats your experience with the jb? hows the power band? ive seen some dynos and seems the turbos run out of breath early in the 5k range.

f80's were a bit jumpy in terms of turbo spooling on/off.

The JB4 works well. Its application ranges from novice to expert. The installation-complexity requirements increase across that same spectrum, i.e. simple perf gains == simple install, etc.

On pre-programmed maps, the power gains are linear. Personally, I prefer the 'kick in the pants' effect so I've been experimenting with & tweaking map 6 customizations. The amazing logging capabilities allow us insights far beyond anything else I've seen and the end result shocks most of my tune-informed passengers (especially in 4th gear).

I've posted dyno numbers and 1/4 mile times (sadly not track numbers) in other threads, too.

I did, I asked both Payam and Terry. They basically said use logging to figure out what works for my car, my fuel, etc. Terry did review the map 6 logs from the dyno run and said they looked fine.
