What is the actual weight reduction of the CS?

We see/ hear 70kg and 230 lbs. very different. Can anyone confirm which if either of those are correct and what's your source? Thx

See my post: https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=39

Russian video weighed the M5C and M5CS one after another

M5C 1966.5kg = 4335.6 lbs
M5CS 1831kg = 4036 lbs
Real world difference of difference of nearly 299 lbs.

But, video doesnt show how full/empty the gas was between the two.

I've seen magazine reviews say its from carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber bucket seats, removal of sound insulation, rear seats that don't fold down, center console; I am sure there are more

Sorry what I meant at least the 230lbs quoted places is closer to the 299 measured, that you shared. What I was getting at is how can the videos and other reviews get the 70kg number which is 1/2 the measured difference. We see the same with HP numbers but at least they're all pretty close 626, 627and 630. Read/ heard all of those….

I'm sure how much gas between the two cars, possibly additional options on the M5C.

I bet that 70kg is likely measured from a similarly spec'ed M5 Competition that also has carbon ceramic brakes and wheels as the M5CS.
These are most likely weight savings from lightweight bucket seats, rear bucket seats, less standard options (from the executive package) and the carbon fiber hood.

very interesting, and too bad they didn't show the fuel levels.

Fuel can certainly play a role as gas weighs 6 lbs. per gallon and these cars hold 20 gallons, so a potential delta of 120 lbs.

In addition, the M5 Comp in the video has the boat anchor cast wheels which are at least 25 lbs. heavier than the CS forged wheels. It is also likely that the Comp in the video has steel brakes which add at least another 50 lbs. over the carbon brakes on the CS. Finally, if the Comp has the exec package, then the fancier seats and other added features also add weight to the Comp.

For just the wheels and brakes alone, there is a delta of 75 lbs. If the Comp in the video had the forged wheels and carbon brakes, the weight difference would have been right around 230 lbs. The exec package, different fuel levels, lighter seats and hood could easily account for another 80 lbs.

No doubt, the CS is quite a bit lighter than the Comp, with a like to like delta of 150+ lbs. The question is whether giving up the creature comforts of the Comp and the exec package in exchange for a 230 lbs. weight savings are a worthwhile tradeoff. For some the answer is clearly yes, for others, not so much.

The 70 kg comes from the official bmw website www.bmw.de where the CS is quoted at 1900 kg while the regular one at 1970 kg, both including driver and fuel and whatnot according to some EU standard for weight

Depends if you're comparing it to M5C with and without CC brakes. I believe BMW compares it to M5C with non Carbon Ceramic brakes
