Almost any metal can be given a polished finish with the proper sequence of abrasives. Start out with a light sandpaper and with your way up to 000 steel wool. There are Scotch Brite pads that are the equivalent of those grit sequences starting with either the black or brown and working up to green. Semichrome polish can bring the luster up from there.

Check out Eastwood.com for tons of metal finishing products that are used by body shops.

Hmmm. This answer is less amusing though.

Thanks Wondermike, that's correct.

I think there might even be something in the Z4 brochure that states that the si model comes supplied with chrome tips as standard. I'd check, but I'm not home at the moment.

I looked in the brochures I got before I ordered mine and didn't see it, but mine did come with them.

Bearing in mind that US and UK cars can differ quite a lot when it comes to this sort of thing. We don't get things like "premium package", and our sports pack is different to yours.

My initial thought was that it might have come from one of those packages (I have both), but I didn't see it listed as part of either package.

I'm pretty sure in NA, the si versions include chrome tips whereas the i versions don't (2006 and later). I read it in the specs.
