Strange sound coming from engine bay

Hi guys,

I noticed recently that my car makes a strange sound after a ride.
I disappears after 10-20 seconds.

It looks like it comes from the engine bay, any idea ? Is this normal ?

Here is a short video of the sound :

Thanks!

If I am correct our cars have a low pressure cooling pump that will stay running to cooldown the turbos. Everytime I shut mine down I can hear a faint sound (like a small motor) going and most times the big cooling fan starts within a few secs for about 5-8 mins (depending on temp)
Your noise might be that motor saying good bye or maybe due to low cooling media. I would check the small expansion tank and top off and try again. If not have the dealer run a test (if still under warranty).
Sorry if I am completly wrong, Im new to my F90 and learning its behavior helps to troubleshoot some issues.

My car makes the same noise since I took delivery and I haven’t had any issues with my car. This engine has electric coolant pumps and fans to help cool the turbos after shutdown and I’ve just gotten used to all the weird sounds this car makes so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I often check the coolant level and everything is ok.

I can't remember if this sound was present before - maybe it was.
The fact that the hood is open makes it more noticeable for sure.

This is maybe because you did not keep a car long enough

Here's some news.

I spoke to the workshop manager at my dealer (who is super professional and highly knowledgeable).
He told me that the sound was due to a computer activation or deactivation of the electronic system. He was able to assure me that it had nothing to do with the engine cooling system.
Also, he told me that this sound was familiar, my vehicle not being the first to reproduce it.

This can happen while approaching or leaving the vehicle.

Oh… ok, that noise. Yes mine does it too and is normal IMO. Sounds like the LPFP activating to pressurise the fuel system. There are like 20K other noises that the car makes if you pay enough attention. Sounds like relays clicking on/off and such. If you hit start and no warning messages appear and drives like it should… drive it some more. Lol.

if you get that noise it means you've not been driving it hard enough and its BMW's way of getting you to take it back for 'inspection'

It happened on my way back home, after driving 10kms.

I've never heard this sound on startups neither on cold-start.

Do you mind explaining why it happens when driving normally on a short ride ?

The car was sitting in my garage for 2 weeks (I mostly use it for long trips), I took it out for 20kms of normal driving and the sound happened just after shutting off the engine.

My dealer did not ask me to bring it for the inspection you are talking about, he just said that everything was normal and I don't have to worry.

Took the car out for a spirited drive today, no engine lights and no sound when back at home.

What a pleasure to take the car out just for fun.

Hi! Do you guys have similar noise from engine bay when in low rpm?
Sounds like mosquito or something.
Thought its the A/C but no - It disappear when engine's off (auto start stop)
Dealership said its normal
Any ideas? Thanks
If it was ac isn't it obvious it would stop when the engine is off? Just turn the ac system completely off to check if that's the issue
