Which number is my actual fuel economy?
My car shows 18.2mpg but the consumption rate displays 22.8mpg. I'm confused. I would like to know which is my true fuel economy.

There are 3 different MPG readings I can think of. In the instrument cluster you'll get the instant reading and the long-term one. The instant will change second-by-second while the long-term one will change much more slowly (unless it was just reset) and can be easily reset. (I reset mine every fill-up) I'm not sure if the long-term one calculates MPG since the last reset no matter how long or if it only does the last 100, 200, etc miles. Then in the iDrive you can find the trip computer that gives you the reading since it was last manually reset or since it last automatically reset if that option is active. I think if it's set to automatically reset it does it when the car hasn't been started for 4 hours or more.
All of these will usually be different because they're measuring MPG over different amounts of time. So technically they're both your true fuel economy... |

The best way to find out your real MPG is to reset your trip odometer when you fill up, and at your next fill up, divide the number of miles driven by the number of gallons of gas you got. Do not top off.
