EDIT: I’m not sure if this just came out but it’s a catch can for the coolant that reroutes it to a safer area once your tanks eventually leak
https://1evel.us/products/f90-m5-f9x...lant-catch-pan I new to the forums so I apologize if this is beating a dead horse. I am purchasing a 2018 M5, I had an inspection done and there is some coolant residue on the tank. I have read a bunch of posts here and I know it’s a common issue so I have already bought one for replacement, dealer is gonna pay for it. My question is has anyone tried putting extra sealant where the two pieces meet? Like a high temp silicone? I could be wrong but is it leaking because of high heat near the cats? And if so can I wrap it the tank in reflective tape to mitigate the heat a little? |

The SIB said the coolant was attacking the tank, so it seems to me like sealant and insulation won't do you any good. Supposedly the new tank part number fixes this but time will tell.
My plan is to monitor the tank and if it leaks replace it (under warranty while it lasts then DIY). |

But most manufactures arent much better.... I have a G63 AMG, and luckily was covered under warranty for now... but... the MB w177 motor (4.0L V8 TT, same thats in the E63, and AMG GT, and others) has an issue with the 2 oil vapor separators which are largely a completely unnecessary part, it basically routes oil burn off vapor back into the cylinders instead of into the atmosphere (so its an emissions thing) but the oil vapor separators (about a 200.00 part) get clogged, and create too much pressure in the cylinder block. And what happens to the oil? moves to the path of least resistance... what is that on the w177 motor?.... a little thing called the rear main seal... So ya, just found that out and got lucky it's covered for now, but a $200,000.00 G63 with 27000 miles on it had a leaking rear main seal. $12,000.00 repair caused by a shit design on a $200.00 part. They obviously have to drop the transmission for the rear main seal... and for the oil separators they're under neath the 2 intercoolers and is actually quicker and easier to drop the entire ENGINE to change them out... What a joke. So keep that in mind on any 4.0L V8 TT AMG car.... if ever in the market |

The vehicle has downpipes that are heat wrapped and I will tape up the tank when I pick up the vehicle Idk if the failure is happening within the tank or from outside elements |

I think it's funnier they didn't just stick it where the f10 had the tank, looks to be essentially empty space there so I'm sure they couldn't just left it where it used to be without issue.

Has anyone looked at moving the tank into the empty space adjacent to it (under the removable cover)?
Or maybe making up a cover to divert any leaking water away from the injectors? |

A relocation kit would also be interesting. Probably need hose extensions and a bracket. If relocating, a different shaped aluminum tank would likely also be possible.

The level sensor is just a 2 wire sensor that completes a ground path to trigger a light. Should not be hard to find a substitute. Not sure about a harness end adapter. Could try cutting off the stock sensor end to see if there is something inside you can work with. Otherwise, cut and splice but leave enough pigtail to re-attach the stock harness end if necessary one day.

also it looks like the maker is already discounting it versus buying it from IND for full MSRP |

Easy install, $500 isn’t a terrible price either
