Easy method to have Coolant and Oil Temp gauges
Just spent literally two hours setting up the Oil and Coolant temperatures gauges in the pics - it was that easy. I used and old Samsung phone I had laying about and an OBD Link. The link bluetooths (or Wi-fi if you prefer) a plethora of information from the OBD port to the phone via an APP. I used 'TORQUE' an android app for this type of setup. This is not my idea I found this method in another thread from USA forum. I was able to get the OBD link from the ACT for approx $155 - installed and set up in about 2 hours. There almost no limit to the type of gauge or digital readout you can design. I wanted Coolant and Oil Temp but also opted for boost and voltage in the smaller digital read outs. Best thing about this set up is,you can take it from vehicle to vehicle without any mods or worries.
The OBD link and the App allow you to monitor any sensor that the OBD reads - you can check and reset the 'check engine light' - and get a read out of any faults that the ECU logs, before the BMW man or other mechanic tells you that you need to spend your hard earned dollars on a fictional fault ( yep had this experience). I used Samsung with a 4" screen, but a larger tablet (or iPad) will allow you to have a heap of digital or analog readouts available. The Samsung fits in nicely behind the cup holders,I just have to the run the power/charger cable tpo the centre console. But I may mount it on the drivers side vent. |
