2020 M5 - Live Cockpit Professional OS7

Hi everybody, this is my first thread.

I’m waiting for a 2020 M5 with Live Cockpit Professional and OS7 iDrive.

I saw on several videos that the new Live Cockpit a Professional installed on new G generation and LCI M5, is slightly different from the same graphic cluster we use on 2020 M5 even with the same hardware and same OS7.

Do you know why and which hardware differences there are between 2020 gen and LCI 2021 M5?

You talking about instrument cluster or entertainment console (center iDrive). I drive is identical. Instrument cluster only has 1 different page and that's for sport mode or track mode or whatever. So far can't be added to 2020. The hardware is the mode switch on center console.

Thank you for your reply.

I’m talking about the instrument cluster. You can clearly see it’s missing something in the upper central part, instead the 2021 LCI one.

I was wondering if this sport/track mode is not available on 2020 model due this hardware differences.

That is the eye ball tracker for the advanced auto pilot thing. X5 has it and The 8.

So maybe it’s not the reason why they didn’t allow the M Mode cockpit on 2020 model.

My question is actually “WHY”.

It’s so cool!

There's nothing they didn't "allow". The hardware doesn't exist for it in the 2020. No mode button lol.

it is a non sense. If the hardware is the same, the different M view is just something about software coding, so if the 2020 doesn’t show the cockpit in that way it means that the hardware is different.

Well yes and no. It is only a software component that is changed. I think though that it literally just doesn't exist in the pre LCI. Something that can't just be turned on by coding cuz it doesn't exist in the car.

It is activated by a different hardware button that exists only in the new M8 and M5 but it still is software that if existed could be told to come on when you put the engine in Sport+ mode or something. It comes on in Track mode I believe in the LCI.

Either way can't be done which is unfortunate if that's something you liked.

Yeah, maybe you are right and it’s exactly what I thought from the beginning. I guess that F90 pre LCI hardware was able to run Os7 but a sort of lighter version. Maybe it doesn’t have enough memory to manage the two different cockpit view, I don’t know but I would really liked to have this sort of sport+/track mode on my cockpit.
