cold start engine knock! input please
Hey guys just another thing I noticed with my car. Every time I start the car cold (over night) I hear some knocking noise from the engine. It only happens when the engine is completely cold. You hear it right after the engines rpm drops from the cold start and will slowly disappear within a few minutes as the engine warms up. The car is brand new has 3000km on it and have noticed this before the break in service. Is this something i need to worry about? anybody else notice this? I will attach a video of the noise thank you

Could be anything, but it doesn't "feel" right.
The frequency definitely drops when the engine rpm comes down off the initial cold start - it has a bit off a valve train vibe to it but who knows??? Definitely get it looked at. |

The wait definitely is the worst! Went with Donington - live outside the city and the country rounds are a b$tch on any darker colours with respect to upkeep. I like keeping a lower profile as well. Having said that, I almost went completely the other way with Snapper but since I'm now over 50 that would have been a bit too much visual overload for my taste on such a big sedan!

Just wanted to update the situation. BMW called this morning told me they would give me the option to replace the entire engine because they cannot pinpoint the problem. Was told they opened the valve covers of bank 1 to check lifters and other components. Had to call in the technical manager and he decided for the engine swap. I appreciate that they are trying to fix the problem but i will be without my car for 6 weeks im guessing, the engine has to come from germany and would take 3-4 weeks i was told. On the bright side the Sales manager is giving me a 2020 750 as a loaner for the rest of the time. F90freak i wish you the best of luck and hope you are not in the same shoes. This means i wont have my brand new m5c for most of the summer and then go through another 2000km of break in.

Sorry to hear... but on the upside you’ll know for sure that the problem is taken care of properly rather than a litany of return visits on a patchwork repair that never breaks back in properly. Especially important if it’s not a lease. In the meantime you can intimidate trucks on the highway with that massive 750’s grille.

Yeah that scenario sounds like a bitch! But, in the long run, it’ll be worth the wait.
I had a similar issue many, many years ago with my 550i and the car still runs like its new. |

hopefully the new engine would be flawless, but at this point i have lost alot of faith in bmw about to come up to my second month of ownership and with the time spent apply ceramic coat and ppf the car has been in the shop for 3 weeks.....

Any news on this one jc16?
Noticed the same sound on my M5C yesterday morning, at 800 km. it makes the sound only in morning cold starts, any other cold start during the day is fine.

That sucks! I would want a new car myself. And if you financed through BMW I would at least have them make or stop payments for you.
On a lighter side, at first glance the engine looks like it's sitting on the popup picnic table and the technician has a big ass set of headphones on while busting the moonwalk with the drill in hand.
