They have ridiculously low 30-50mph and 50-70mph times…. If you are not spooled or running anti-lag they will almost always get a jump on you…. In this instance the longer the race the more the m5 would gap it…..

I'm all for ICE performance cars - look at my garage. That said, EVs will take over. Once the real manufacturers start dialing in the handling, feel and lean on other innovations to bring the same handling feel to EVs, the only reason we will be pining for a super complex ICE setup (and lets face it, ICE is more complex to run) will be for nostalgia... just like having a mechanical Rolex Daytona or Patek.
The Taycan S comes closest to an awesome car regardless of powertrain - but still feels heavy and I don't necessarily like the way it looks for a 4 door. I much prefer the traditional look of a 5 series. It's just a matter of time - we, as fans of ICE, will be the old people in the corner knowing the ins and outs of the otto cycle, but everyone else in the world won't care... while smoking us in or slow ass dino juice run cars.

C&D finally got its hands on a Plaid and did a full review. Overall, very disappointing.
In summary here are the issues / problems. * Sketchy steering with limited road feedback * Very weak brakes particularly considering the brutal acceleration the car can generate. * C&D noted that unlike Elon's claims of 200 MPH, the car was limited to 160 MPH and C&D felt certain that no one would feel safe going 200 MPH given the sketchy steering and weak brakes. * Stability control cannot be defeated and is too limiting / intrusive. * Low skid pad numbers. Overall, it appears the Plaid generates competitive times on race tracks by going really fast on the straights and slower through the corners than its competitors. Given all of this, I would not want to trade my M5C LCI for a Plaid. I can see I will likely be much happier with a second or third generation Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT once they get the range up to 350+ miles and add a bit more power. |

Not sure I follow. This is a drag race with a tuned M5 that gets a huge head starts and gets run down. The more common real life scenario would be both cars start at the same time and the M5 is likely not stage 2 and gets crushed. I couldn't give two shits about Telsa and am BMW all the way but it's smoking a tuned car with a head start..

Tesla has a long launch control procedure so maybe it was real world. Even with no launch control, the Plaid would still beat even a stage 2 M5.

Nonetheless, I certainly do support finding cleaner battery materials and cleaner mining techniques, all of which I expect to develop over the next decade. |

I still think there is a place in the world for hydrogen. Both fuel cell and combustion. I like the idea of keeping all the 'Brum Brum sounds' and emitting just warm water.

I was in a roll race about 70 mph at the beginning. Raced The fastest model S. I think it's a P100 plaid. Not sure what they call it.
But let me tell you I've raced a lot of cars and I can count on one hand how many I've lost to. That car absolutely fucking dusted me. Lol. |

It’s not allowed to race at NHRA drag strips because it doesn’t have a parachute nor does the driver likely own a fire suit…

And from the videos I've seen, the stock brakes are pretty sketchy slowing the car from the 155+ trap speeds in a safe distance without that parachute ;-)

I slowed down from 162 recently and though the stock M5 brakes were fine. But I do love speed and accept that a Tesla Plaid would get there much faster. 152 trap is no joke. The record for a tuned, modded stock motor stock turbo F90 is 144-145. 7 mph difference is 10 feet per second. The Tesla would pass you in about 1.5 seconds and run away, until the speed limiters kicked in or gearing or power or drag. I will say the F90 is confidence inspiring at 160, and while I have not driven a Tesla past 111 mph, I have read that they are floaty at high speed. Maybe a software update exists to fix that.

In track mode the regenerative braking is even stronger. The braking is way better. Yeah the price of 20k is ridiculous. Should have been 8-10k.
