M5 comp pcg vs E63 s VS Pan Turbo
Hi Guys,
I went for a test drive with following cars all on the same day: 1. BMW M5 Competition package 2. Mercedes E 63 S 3. Porsche Panamaera Turbo I would like to share my opinion of these cars. My test drives were 30 minutes each. In the past I had 911 Turbo S, Mercedes C63 and Infiniti m45 and some SUV’s. BMW M5: Straight line: acceleration is great. I went to a highway and the car felt great plenty of power 8/10 Car handling: Steering feels precise a bit artificial but overall very good 8/10 Suspension: I love the suspension it feels very nibble and just right not to stiff or to soft 8/10 Technology: The screen is very crisp, very clean, easy to navigate I like it a lot, speakers are great. 9/10 Brakes: I was reading on C/D etc a lot of negative about the brakes. They bite like crazy I love them. They are light years ahead of the 550 breaks. 10/10 Comfort: Seats are very comfortable (I am 6’8’’ 265lbs) I got plenty of room; I love the real leather feel it’s worth the upgrade. 9/10 Overall: Solid 8.5 out of 10 Mercedes E63 S 4 Matic Straight line: Feels kind of slow, tranny is just slow, engine is decent I prefer feel of C63 engine. It fees sluggish, can a car with 577hp feel slow it does to me 6/10 Car handling: It feels large, clumsy and not refined 6/10 Suspension: Feels softer and more comfortable than M5 but you pay for the softness when you hit even mild curves. 6/10 Brakes: They are very good they bite hard and stop the car very well 9/10 Comfort: Car is comfortable, plenty of room but seats are kind of too soft for my taste. 9/10 Overall: I can’t justify paying $115,000 for this car it’s just not an upgrade from E550. Overall 7/10 Porsche Panamera Turbo Straight line: acceleration is breathtaking, comparable to 911, insane; it just feels like its devouring the road. 10/10 Car handling: Steering feels amazing, not to stiff or soft just superb, and tranny is something else can’t compare to anything. After 100mph car feels smaller and smaller and smaller you feel like you just can abuse this car 10/10 Suspension: I love the suspension it has air suspension and it rides like an MB S class almost 9/10 Technology: Holly …..How many buttons, backup camera is from the 2005, so many pixels, it’s like time stopped, not fan of this aspect 6/10 Brakes: Crisp, bite is equal and distributed evenly amazing 10/10 Comfort: Seats are very comfy, very spacious, I can sit in the back with no issues, now the big downside is there is NO 3RD SEAT, and this car sits 4 only (I got 3 kids) No Bueno. 9/10 Overall: 9/10 if you can afford this car Summary: The Porsche Panemera Turbo #1, BMW M5 #2, Mercedes E63 S #3. If you have a family, need to pick the kids up from school etc you should consider the fact that Panemara has only seating that accommodate 4. The E63 I feel like it’s not worth the price and the premium over E550. This is coming from C63 owner. The M5 it’s a good blend of a super car and a daily driver. So price considered, seating for 5, free maint for 4 years the BMW is the winner in my opinion. Thanks for reading! |

Thanks for proper review---- Ive driven all three and owned the M5 for about 6 months. Ill agree with your assessment as well- the Panny just pulls or at least creates that feeling but it will be caught rather easily after 100 mph by both cars. I have had 3 versions of the Benz engine you drove and the sound is the best part of the M157 engine. I think the problem with the Benz is the mushy pedal, it just doesnt feel fast because its rather non responsive matched up against the Panny and M5. I owned a W212 AMG but had the 518hp engine and it was slowwwer. Benz really needs to get to steel springs all the way around. They moved up the suspension food chain when they pulled the airmatic from the front of the W212 and W218 chassis cars (AMG versions) but the rear still has it and its a soft uncompliant pig.
Again, thanks for the review!!

Thanks for sharing your experience.
This is one of the fair comparison I have ever seen in this forum. I'm not MB fan guy at all (Except SL63) and I guess the M5 you did test drive must be somewhere around 110-120k; so how cant you justify MB with the same price of M5 (which I agree with you) but can justify Panamera with over 40K more expensive if build it with the same options when it's just 0.5/10 (according to your own rating) above the M5?

Two reasons: 1. Accommodates 5 (got 3 kids) 2. It's more affordable The cars that I tested MSRP was: M5 was $116,825 and Panemara was $155,000 but Porsche dealer (I got 911 turbo s from him) was willing go give me an great discount. Bmw gave me only $7k off. I also tested Audi S6 and it was disappointing. But to answer you question I would compare panamera GTS to BMW M5. That would be fair comp. And that would be 50/50 depending on personal preference. GTS : Better road handling, better sound, more "exotic" brand BMW M5:A little Faster is straight line, much better looking, seats 5, better technology |

It was 2011 turbo s.
I sold the car at the end of 2012 to get extra cash to start my business. Fun car! But I don't miss it because I don't have time to drive for fun now. It was replaced with mercedes c63 and mercedes ml 350. Now I will sell/trade in c63 and lease m5. I am keeping ml 350 great suv.

Great objective review!
And I hate that about the Panamera as well. For my wife,, it just eliminates itself because of this. We only have two kids but one is 210 mos. old and if she picks the 9 yr. old up from school there's no Otherwise, stellar car. room for a friend.

In Opinion the BMW M5 its a pure winner.
The price ! it costs way less than the Panamera The looks ! I think the panamera its ugly Power ! U can see on gtboard the M5 560hp beating the 550hp turbo S PANA Space ! 5 real seats Technology ! Porsche stopped in time , BMW got HUD , better good stuff. The E63 S its great , but i prefer M5 .

Pan turbo s 11.4 Around the track pan is faster. Pan is easy to drive tranny is super dummy based. I did not track the car, I am not pro driver but I tested all these cars and pan feels faster especial due to all wheel drive from the start and in the city. I think new pan turbo s 0-60 it's 3.3 M5 about 3.7 And I found only one pan turbo s in 500 mile radius from Dallas Just being realistic

Disclaimer up front: I don't claim to be an expert or a seasoned enthusiast. What I am is reasonable and logical. If you tell me this is not about reason or logic, then I can live with that even though I may not understand it.
So, I have a simple question when it comes to these sort of comparisons: Why do we compare cars that are not equal in cost or close in cost? Yes, I'm talking about the Porsche Pan Turbo in this comparison. Every other factor seems to be somewhat close except cost. Is it fair to compare Jessica Biel, Mila Kunis, or Halle Berry to the chic that works in your office or you met out a bar last week?! Sure they all may be hot, but would it be fair to compare them head-to-head w/o factoring in cost/"pay-to-play" factor? Sure, there are other comparisons that get us riled up (coupes v. sedans, exotics v. non-exotics, AWD v. RWD, 400 HP v. 560 HP, etc.,), but there's something about comparing cars where the price difference (before negotiating) is b/w $40k-$90k. The Pan Turbo and Turbo S start at $141k and $180k. Price is only one factor in the comparison, but it seems to be the factor that is the widest margin and one of the least subjective in these comparisons. If you don't care about money, then why not include the AM Rapide S, MB S63, Maserati Quattroporte GTS, etc.,? I know the OP reviewed the cars he likes and test drove, so I'm not knocking him or his choices. Note: Sorry to be that guy that equates women to cars, but those are two things that came to mind when I thought of "hot." People are not objects...I get it.

Dude awesome response. I love it.
I did later on say ( in response to anther post)to be fair m5 should be comp to pan gts not turbo or turbo s.take a peek at it. And after test driving m5,e63,audi s6,caddy cts-v,all Porsche pan models( I owned 911 turbo s) based on my limited exposure 30-45 minutes driving on highway not track, driving in the city decided to go with m5. So lol m5 is the winner..... My friend made comment that you can get m3 and m5 for the price of pan turbo.or m5 and 535d.

Not sure this is since I have seen people post 11.78 here with bone stock M5 and of course with mods, we have an 11.07 recorded by a member here. I also think the 11.4 time you posted for the Panamera is with mods.

These are numbers from various sources not my own that I've collected.
All numbers are stock cars only. I have mb c63 1/4 mile is like 12.5 around I go to YouTube saw dude it's hitting 11 sec...... I am pretty sure that pan turbo is faster stock for stock at 1/4 mile But like I said m5 is better car

Pan turbo is press gas and go.
I can drive it and pro can drive it with almost same track time. But for m5 the driver is the key. I am sure that a good driver can smoke me in pan turbo any day. I am watching these YouTube 1/4 races and the same cars like m5 from ranges 11.8 to 12.8 lol that's an wide spread. So the answer is you really need to know what to do with m5. That's why it's so much fun to drive, that's why is so engaging etc. That's why I would never buy nissan gtr because if I want computer to drive me I would get new 2015 s 550 and just let the computer do it's thing.
