guys guys it's New Year!!! ANyways, there's no such thing as an overweight car. If the E90 lost 400lbs it wouldnt even drive the same. I think it wouldnt be as smooth and maybe the body wont be able to protect you as well in an accident. Most cars nowadays weigh around 3400lbs so it's not a big deal...

I'm not sure about the weight issue but I think it looks a little bloated on the sides....

the purpose was to make the car LOOK big. THey made it longer so of course they have to make it look a little bit bigger as well. Otherwise it will look like a hot dog. |

peakpro, of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions whether good or bad but it seems that you're often an active participant in any anti-e90 threads.
anyways, e46 looks "bloated" compared to e36, and in that tradition the e90 probably looks "bloated" compared to an e46, but that doesn't make it bad looking. It's still a more modern and bolder design than the e46. |

I'm not against the e90... i think its the best driving sedan on the market...
However I am not thrilled with its styling....and as I stated I hope the coupe is more to my liking... |

Just replace those nice leather seats with light Recaro, Cobra or Corbeau seats, take out the radio, speakers, subwoofer, amp, etc., replace the windows with Lexan, get a carbon fiber hood, replace the run flats with conventional tires, and have the two rear seat passengers take another ride. That should cut out at least 400 lbs.

Seriously though, I agree that it would be nice to make the 330i lighter. Look at its larger sibling the e60 5-series. Its weight is not much more than the smaller 3-series due to light weight materials in the front end (I've been told).

Let's add some figures to the debate, in order of weight:
Car Kg Lbs * Volvo S40 T5 1427 3146 Renault Laguna LX 1431 3155 BMW 330 1465 3230 Honda Accord Euro L 1470 3241 ^ @ Nissan Maxima 1480 3263 Alfa 166 1490 3285 Audi A4 3.2 FWD 1490 3285 Saab 9-3 Aero 1514 3338 VW Passat SE 1514 3338 Citroen C5 V6 Excl 1520 3351 Honda Accord V6 L 1525 3362 @ Opel Vectra CDXi 1535 3384 MB C350 Elegance 1570 3461 Hyundai Sonata 1580 3483 - Lexus IS250 1593 3512 ~ Jaguar X Type 3.0 1595 3516 Peugeot 407 SV 1660 3660 * Figures are taken from Wheels Magazine, for Oz spec cars, with closest offering to a 3.0 6cyl, Auto, and not All Wheel Drive (unless either FWD or RWD is not offered) ^ 4 Cyl car @ Sold as an Acura in the US - Included for fun, and mainly to show the difference between cheap, low tech, and more expensice brands. ~ IS250 quoted because 350 not on sale in Oz. Weight used is an average of the 1560 to 1625Kg weight range (3439-3583lbs) quoted on Lexus' Australian Web Site. I think the BMW does very well on this score. It will be interesting to see the kerb weights of the new C Class.
