Steering Wheel Vibration

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello People,

Got my new M5 this week and I'm loving every km in it (currently at 600km).

The problem that I'm having right now is the vibration that is coming from the steering wheel (no, this isn't any sort of intelligence driver assist or lane warning).

I'm feeling the vibration that's coming from the engine, especially when my speed is greater then 80km/hr. And also, I'm feeling that it iss coming from the road surface too. Especially from rougher/bad road surface.

The sort of vibration that I'm feeling is like a humming feeling from a tuning fork. And after an hour of driving or so, both of my hands feels a bit numb.

Does anyone else feels the vibration from their steering wheel while they are drive their F90 M5?

Nope. All modes have this same humming/vibration feel.

So been down to the dealership and had a tech guy to drive the car to test it out.

Apparently it is due to the bad "road condition" which causes the vibration.

The tech guy did do a tire check, wheel alignment check, and road force balance. Went for a drive again still get that feed back of road condition from the steering wheel vibration.

Guess it's just a false alarm.

Now I can continue on to enjoy my ride.

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but I had a similar experience w/ my current 550i Xdrive M. I think the rough road is BS and it had nothing to do w/ what your tech checked out. It was bad front wheel bearings, that they replaced under warranty...

Hey man, thanks for the info.

Is there anyway to get them to "check it out"? Or should I just go in there and tell them: "I think it's a front bearing problem, can you please switch it under warrenty?".

I would simply say, you are still not satisfied and this is what you just heard on the forum. I would then tell them to check them out....

This will sometimes happen when there are unusual combinations of speed/grade/vehicle load. I used to get it when going up a steep hill at highway speeds in my old car.

In fact I felt it a bit in the M5 the other weekend when I had three passengers with me on the highway - plus their luggage and 9 cases of wine LOL.

When everyone and everything was out, the vibration went away.

Definitely and at least you will have peace of mind.
It's not a big deal and I got my car back next day...

The way you describe seems like a lot more than just a little bit of bad road condition vibration. I'd definitely get it checked out and maybe even try another dealer (and if the other dealer finds something, make sure to take the receipt to the current dealer and get them to throw in something for free for missing it if they want you to come back for future services).

Just got the car back today. Got their head of tech guy to do a full test drive and check on the car and now it doesn't vibrate anymore.

Not sure what magic he did, but at least everything is working now and I'm happy about it!

Thanks for all the help
