Ones minor changes to an M car launched maybe 3 years ago and is a 5 seat sedan. One is a new design 4 seat coupe from a segment below and non M car. I prefer apples to oranges myself but yes I agree this new M5 looks better than the general new design language and grill on the new 4.

I don't know what the big deal is on these LCI headlights SMH... I was driving the other day and say a car coming up to, I thought "whoa is that a new 5 series??" NO, turns out to be a new Jaguar XJ (look them up) couldn't be more disappointed... that is was Jaguar B) that BMW had to copy a Jaguar headlight design 🙄

It's about time BMW M added a red to the standard colour pallet for the M5. E28 had Zinnobar Red, E39 had Imola Red, E60 had Indianapolis Red, etc.

Changes thus far look minor to me.

Along with the new Toronto Red color option, you can see they implemented BMW Laser technology and revised air inlets in the front bumper.

High heat high performance engine = larger grill opening in a given space for cooling and performance needs. I think this driving some of the design. (Audi and MB too)There is only so much space to achieve the requirements of amount of air passing though grill and through radiator and inter cooler. Difficult for me to judge on a small part of car how it will look and pictures do not do justice. I am looking forward to an in person look when they arrive, hopefully soon!

People keep posting this “everyone complains but eventually it will grow on you” stuff but I don’t think that’s always true. For instance the giant grills are heinous and will not grow on me. Some changes are capable of being just worse. These new headlights suck.

So their designer are Korean now?
Headlights look like the ones on the new Kia. Did BMW start a designer swap with the Korean brands? I know the lead designer in Hyundai/kia is an exBMW guy and he is bulking up those designs. Maybe they traded designers to avoid non compete.
A long winded way of saying- those headlights blow. |
