Because aftermarket pads that don't dust or ever squeal don't perform as well. Which is more important to you in your high performance car, the best braking performance or the best braking sound?

And, again, if you brake harder, you won't get the sound.

My M5 brakes were honking a week ago because I was doing the slow cruise thing. A couple mildly harder stops, and remembering not to drag the brakes, and the sound is gone.
My F90 M5 2018 with CCB never made a squeak in 5500 miles.
Best brakes I have had. I never did any "Bedding in " on amny BMW M cars, never had a squeak out of any.My F90 M5 CP included.

If your steels are squealing, thats a problem. I've never had that happen, CCB, 100% guaranteed.

I agree with what you are saying. Just keep in mind that there are a handful of us that are following these guidelines and are still having 100% brake squeal...yes 100%. If the only answer is hard braking at every intersection and in heavy traffic the brakes will be the least of our concern.

I have a theory that mine have been damaged due to the chemicals used to keep the roads safe in the winter. I never drove my M4 in the winter and also never had this level of brake squeal. Will post after next service visit.

Bingo, nailed it, at least for my car.
Coming to a slow drag stop, it may happen. Under more pressure the squeal never happens - 25,000 km on car.

I find that a quick hard high speed brake seems to remove any squealing.

Hmmm, putting wax between the brake pads and rotors...I wonder what effect that will have on braking...

It goes between the pads and the backing plates on the caliper side. Some brakes make noise from pad movement in the caliper and this is the solution and has been for many decades.

The issue with BMW brakes is the pad material however and it will always squeal and dust. I would love to get a ceramic pad to cut the dust and noise, anyone have a link to one?

Just be aware that you will also reduce the braking performance of your car. There is no free lunch when it comes to braking. And don't use Hawk Ceramics unless you want to crap your pants when they're cold.

With ceramic pads? On the street? No noticeable difference. On the track? Sure absolutely. Am I going to track this heavy beast? Never.

I am on steels, strangely I always had the squeal at low-speed breaking, I tracked the car last week and it's gone now (Along with half my pad ) - they now whisper quiet.

Are Porterfield R4-S High Performance or the ACG pad giving the same performance as the standard BMW pads to anyone who has fitted them? Ive had my M5 in to the dealer as couldnt stand the noise anymore usual M sport brake noise response.

Took my '19 in. Mentioned the squealing brakes. They gave me a copy of the 2 page brochure portion of this SIB:

Brake squeal is by far worst part of the M5 experience.

Again, get the aftermarket pads to fix the problem. The OEM brakes give a slightly better performance than the aftermarket pads. No more noise and less brake dust. A big win for me.

Massive difference on the street, at least the one's I've used in the past. Hawk Ceramics. Shouldn't even be allowed to be sold to the public. Paid a mechanic to put them on my Audi, then paid him again three months later to take them off and go back to stock.

Starting with an E92 2011 M3 all of my M cars have had brake squeal. I'm just used to it and expect it on every vehicle. I'm on my fourth one. Lots of squeal.

There has to be a reason why some get the sequel and some dont. Mine has never made a noise, and I mean whisper quite...
