OK, I'm sorry but the SQUEALING BRAKES are driving me NUTS!

Third M car....third car that has had ridiculously loud, squeeling brakes. This is ridiculous. It was fine the first month I had the car but it sounds like a school bus at every stop now......warmed up or not.

My wife says it sounds like I have a POS car. Seriously, it's embarrassing. I've had AMG's and Porsches and none of them gave me this issue.

Has anyone actually had BMW fix this issue? Or are they still hiding behind the "this is normal" BS line....until we magically get aftermarket pads and the issue goes away immediately.

My M550i didn't have this issue, either (not the same brakes but still upgraded brakes versus normal G30 models).

High performance brakes they do squeal, and a bit of squeal is normal.

If yours squeal a lot, I would say you're not braking hard enough.

It depends on the idea of "normal". I've owned 5 M cars, including an F10 M5, and that car was the only one to have brake squeal. It was awful but I had dark tinted windows so i could hide.

It's not normal. More like "typical for M5s" than other cars, perhaps. But still unacceptably not normal, and BMW should do something about it.

And personally, I wouldn't accept any discussion along the lines of "it's your fault" or that you're driving the car wrong.

The stock brakes pads may be too aggressive for you, just change the front pads into an aftermarket street pad for like $200-300 and they will be completely silent.

Agreed completely unacceptable, have had it now on all 3 of my F90 M5s

Mines just been in and had discs and pads cleaned out and so far so good but will be back if it isn't fixed

Had this bulletin sent me from a dealer, seems point 1 is the major on we all seem to get but WTF do BMW mean by "No Action Required" beg to differ as when sounding like an old truck Action is most certainly required

Porsches do this as well. The recommendation is to do a couple hard stops from time to time.

My Audi brakes were squealing REALLY bad for a while. I took them to the dealer and they said the pads were worn but still had life in them, but the rotors had grooves in them. Possibly from debris that got in between the pad and the rotor. I replaced the rotors and pads and they have been silent ever since.

Not saying this is your issue or solution, of course. Just saying I can relate.

Steel or ceramic? Do ceramics even squeal?

OP, are you driving mostly in city/surburbia, with traffic and lots of traffic lights? If so, I'll bet you're braking gently, and dragging brakes into stops. That will cause the glazing that drives the squeaking. Try braking harder, later, and even do a few hard stops on empty streets. That has always worked for me on my Porsches.

I just got my first squeak on the BMW yesterday driving home from a store. 3,000 miles on the car and lately all slower city driving. I'm gonna try to clean them off this weekend and see if the squeak levels.

Strangely, I kinda liked the sound though.

I know there has been several threads on this.....which tells you what an issue this is, especially when they all seem to say the same thing...it's "normal". Maybe it is for M cars....but I guess BMW says it's normal for the M cars to sound like a $6k POS 1984 Pontiac.

I do mostly city driving.....stop light to light....and I'm sure feathering the brakes is what is causing this. However, am I supposed to be driving 60 and then stop on a dime at every light? Maybe I wasn't taught how to drive (or rather, brake) properly.

Yeah, I know the solution is aftermarket pads. That's not really a solution....it's a workaround I should not have to do on a 2-month old $115k car (that is, basically pay $1k to have my brand new OEM brake pads changed out).

I am going go take it to the dealer and insist they at least cover the labor for aftermarket pads if they can't solve this issue. It's just unacceptable.

Now here, mine actually do not do it in reverse.....I do not think any of my M cars have squealed in reverse.

I think if you do a lot of town driving they do this - I live in the sticks so my driving style is 80 % hard braking, not had a peep out of them.

So you knew about the issue, the cause, and the workaround-- yet still proceeded with the steel brakes expecting you were any different than the 999 threads already about the squealing steel brakes?

edit: just realized you were the guy that sold me the mirror caps, so don't take my comment too personally. We're like family in this forum! And kuddos for that A+ packing job!

I have ceramics on my f90 and they squeal for sure just like Porsche's do. Same general solution is to get a lot of heat in them and they quiet down but cold it's pretty brutal at times coming to a stop at a "normal pace". Plenty of looks at stoplights

Had this problem on my E60 and F10 M5 for a few days. I put anti squeal paste on the backing of my brake pads and never had a squeal again.

do a search plenty of brake squeal threads already

.....The loud brake squeal noise and crazy black brake dust is due to the cheap oem pads they use.........I had the issues and fixed it by replacing the pads with Porterfields r4s street pads (ACG pads are made by Porterfield)...just call them and order direct.....now I have zero squeal and ~50% less dust
