US spec M5 Navigation for Euro Delivery?

My plan is to use CarPlay (I prefer to use Waze/Google maps) to navigate. I thought that I read a post that CarPlay isn't active till the car gets back to the US.
How have you navigated during Euro Delivery? I read that Euro mapping is provided via USB. Does it work well?

Worked awesome in my F80. Didn't need the other apps at all.

During my euro delivery last summer. The USB they give you works great, you have to wait like 2 minutes or so for it to load every time you start the car though but once you're over that, it works well.
