@pimpsy I see you make a statement saying that the price is "more than anyone would even pay retail".... is this based on actual known transactions of a 139k sticker car? or is this just gathered from what people post on forums the deals they say they can get or got?
Let's talk about value...we can bicker back and forth about my reasons for posting the asking price where I did, but in the end, what matters is what it sells for, or what someone feels the car is worth to them. That's really what something is worth right? In your professional internet opinion of the value of my car, what do you think its worth to the "more than anyone would pay" crowd? I think an educated discussion on valuation and where you think this car should be priced at is more beneficial to everyone. |

In addition to reading what scores of other people have paid for months, my experience is based on my own purchase. I was offered $2500 under invoice on any build I wanted. I built a $127K M5C and paid $116K.
If you think anyone in their right mind would settle for a $4000 discount on a $139K car, you are seriously out of touch with the market. But you seem to think you know what you're talking about so I'll trust you are able to figure this out on your own without further assistance. Good luck.

The thread is annoying, mostly because of the absurd statements that somehow this weird tactic is done for the benefit of the community. He could sell the car for one dollar and it wouldn't move the market one nickel. The ongoing elaborate justifications in the thread are just ridiculous. That said, I really care much less than my continually posting in this thread would imply. Time to move on.

One more thing, since you did ask. I would imagine a $139K build would retail for about $125K. You didn't mention the in-service date I don't think, but assuming it's around six months old the car will have depreciated by around 15%. That's gonna put you in around $105K not counting the hit you might take selling as a private party.
And I do wish you luck with the sale, shame you have to let it go.

Pimp...thank you for contributing with your number. $2500 below invoice is an excellent number. Out of 10 people that walk into a BMW dealership to buy a M5 off the floor or build, how many do you think can actually get that same $2500 below invoice?
And first registration date is 12/1/18, so no, not a six month old car. |

guys....I dont want this thread to be annoying, or just arguing back and forth. I knew full well going into this that this would be how it was accepted. That being said, I went ahead and posted it because I was hoping to get into a more quantitative discussion on value with you guys with proof as its always seems to be the case that numbers are thrown out there with no basis other than what they've read on the internet. And I know this car doesn't really exist used on the market today other than mine, so I figured this community would appreciate the opportunity.
I value stuff for a living, not the car business, but related enough. For me, its a good quick estimation of depreciation by using 1% per month. I start at what a dealer paid for it new, as that is what it was worth day 1 it was sold to the dealer, and then depreciate back from there. its a back of the napkin calculation but its pretty close to what bmw calculates for lease residuals so makes sense. Pimp.... I see you are very educated in the cost and pricing of these cars, what would you say true dealer invoice or NNN of my car would be with a 139k sticker. As in how much cold hard cash would the dealer have to have parted with the get the car free and clear including all trunk money, etc available? Nada says $129,800, thats 6.6% of sticker. I know there is 5k money for non-comp with a lease deal, but that doesn't play here. you said 10% is where you would be on new. Is that with a straight up cash deal, or you talking about financing/leasing? if you are saying 10%, then, its only reasonable to assume that they aren't paying more for the car than that, otherwise, why would you be in business. Your 10% gets me to 125k true invoice or what that car costs new. Is that a number we can agree on? 125k new invoice on 139k sticker? higher or lower? I'm very interested in this data... |

Good luck with sale
Nice spec but needs someone who's looking just for that and I believe it's relatively a good deal if people look at it as a new car

FWIW, I was offered $8k off a M5C that was already on a dealers lot and stickered at 124. I did not proceed given it had 2 major differences from my ideal build, but I know they would have come down even more.
