300+ sitting on lots
Did a quick search and noticed 300+ M5's sitting in lots out there. Every dealer I talk to they are flying off the shelves but it doesn't seem that way. BMW needs to fix the program and discounts so these cars start moving. The F10 release wasn't as bad as this.

True. I started casually looking in June and most of the cars I saw then are still for sale.

Interestingly, there are only 130 M550i out there, but over 350 M5. I think one reason is that BMW has been building more M5 cars than M550i cars recently.
The M5 aren't selling as well as I expected. The lease terms are bad on the 2019, but not on the 2018, so that doesn't explain why the 2018 aren't selling. I think part of the reason is that dealers have been reluctant to discount them so far. Also, I think the market for very expensive non-electric sedans has been shrinking. Some people migrated to SUVs, and many migrated to Tesla Model S, particularly in CA which used to be a big market for high-end German sedans. |

I was referring to 2018 only. I agree with you in general. Unfortunately they don't. Tomorrow is a big day. Let's see what the programs look like |

In comparison to Merc this is a little surprising. My family generally gets about $8k-$10k off our leases ('18 E400 Edition 1 and '18 E63s AMG). With how many M5s are sitting on the lot you would think to at least see similar discounts but i guess thats how they keep their profit margin so big

These things drop like a rock a year or two in terms of value. BMW also always drops pants on these cars after a few months. If it was always a consistent 1700/mo than thats what the car is worth forever and always, don't lease for 1700 one month and 3 months later lease for 1100. For 2200 a month you are in a completely different ball game and it should be expected. I am in the middle of looking at a 720s for a garage car and know it costs what it costs because the dealership is always consistent. |

I have my SA calling me almost every week to try and get me into one of their 3+ F90s sitting in their lot. Its brutal out there for them.
Still not making the move to an F90 yet. Maybe next year for the LCI. f.

I think the main reason is that BMW announced Competition package the same year this time. A lot of potential buyers are just waiting for the 19' comp.

2018 M5 Availability
As of 5 minutes ago there were 192 2018 M5s sitting on dealers lots nationally. This did not include cars marked P1 (sold). Over 50% are in the Western region, the Eastern region has 35, Central region 21. Another noteworthy item is the vast majority 90+%, have been on the ground less than 2 weeks.
I'm having a hard time seeing how the cars have not had a pretty successful launch? |
