Finished my mods...

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Paint matched all the trim Black Sapphire except the door handles for contrast. Tint, Competition Exhaust with black tips and added a bit more horsepower. I can live with a 10.8 daily driver/vacation car.

Thanks !

I went ultra conservative on JB4. Used the Blue Line Map1 on this dyno. All of the logs are inline with stock parameters. (except boost..lol).

Much more power available, but not for me. 93 pump and forget it.

Nice! Didn't know the JB4 was out of beta testing. Any fears running it with 91 pump gas?

“Beta” is relative. +20 M5’s had it before me beginning in May. I’m fine with that.

91 Octane is not as optimum as 93 even pure stock, but you will be fine on MAP 1. I would not go beyond Map 1 on 91.

If I'm reading this right, does it shift at redline earlier after the tune?

If you are referring to the dyno graphs, some interesting things happened on the dyno after the boost was increased over 2 to 3psi. 2-3psi dyno curve is where I am tuned and you can see the blue arc follow the stock red arc. The other arc's drop back down at the top end toward the blue/stock hp curve.

The shift point stays the same in all of the psi increases...it's just the hp curve that drops down.

Nice car!
Did you install the factory competition exhaust?
If you were looking at aftermarket, what changed your mind?

Yes I installed the factory Competition exhaust. “ What changed my mind” is a tough question to answer.....sorta a blend of events... 1. I hated the stock sound since I was driving my X5M with Akra at the same time and the Akra KILLS the stock exhaust. 2. I needed to turn some wrenches. 3. Nothing else was available at that time. 4. The Akra that I had just bought for the X5M was $6,300 and the M5 was projected (correctly) to cost $8,500. After 2000 miles on the Competition exhaust it sounds even better since the packing has watered down. I was going to yank it and add the Akra to match the X5M after the price drops down to $6,xxx , but I like the tone now and will keep it.

Are you thinking the Alta will drop in price in the future? Wasn’t aware they did this.

Just a pure guess on my part. TI is getting more expensive so it might not. It did drop over time for the X5M. I can buy an Akra X5M today for $6,300 delivered. Same amount of TI in it as the F90. But To be fair to Akra they have to recoup their development costs. It’s by far the best fitting exhaust that I have personally installed since 1976.

Looks great! Have you considered blacking out the front reflectors?

I'm also debating on the Akra since I had it on my RS7 and loved it.

Thanks !

The reflectors kill me. By law in VA you have to have them for an annual inspection...... I still might black them out because they are awful.

Akra is a bad to the bone unique TI sound. Love it on my X5M !

Didn't see much in the way of discounts for Akra in the F10 platform. 100% agree on fitment and build quality. I've had it on both on my F10 M5's and love it.

I'm going to take your advice and give the comp exhaust a chance before pulling the trigger on Akra.
