Are you going to keep the CS or replace it?

X7 will be replacing the M5 CS.

I'm sure that I will regret it at some point, but that's part of life.

The tires that need to be removed and moved. Yes. Occasionally front and rear on one side, occasionally both fronts, occasionally both rears. Track rotations are a pain. Best to have four jacks, but not many people can pull that off unless you have four pucks and good friends that travel from track to track together.

I don't mean to be pedantic, but I'll take you through a front to back rotation for track with only one jack, just one side.

1. Remove right front track tire (after jacking, etc.)
2. Install street tire on right front before lowering (you drove down on these)
3. Take right front track tire to back
4. Jack up car right rear
5. Remove right rear track tire
6. Install right front tire on right rear
7. Lower car
8. Take right rear tire to right front
9. Jack up right front
10. Remove right front STREET tire that was holding the car up
11. Install right rear track tire on right front.
12. lower car and remove jack

This is what you are stuck with if you don't have a buddy, and go to track with space for only one jack. Other buddies will often loan you their jacks so you don't have to go this bull**** but this is the best solution for rotating track tires at the track.

Quite the process and makes sense.

I've done two days with the CS and did not rotate

Depends on what tire and what track for how bad tire wear is. Also rotation can be only done left to right unless you have a square setup (I do, I think you do).

VIR MURDERS the left front. You can completely obliterate the left front and cord it if you have an open track event (rare, but Audi does it).

CMP ain't so easy on tires either. And Dominion also kills the right front tire. Without rotation, you can get a flat (done it, been there, my GT-R had to ride home on a trailer cause I couldn't bring tires in a GT-R, not big enough).

Super excited to see that wagon! Also I hear you, I miss my f95 all the time. Have been seeing the XM around in black and it’s making me think about having a kid just so I have an excuse to use the rear seats 😂😂😂

VIR luckily wasn’t that bad on my tires, but Summit Main kills my left front so know I have to rotate going forward

Sorry to hear this, but if it’s what you want, I’m super happy for you! And you actually had an exterior that I wouldn’t be scared to destroy every five seconds. And I know it’s been taken care of. Hope it goes to a good home. As someone who DDed SUVs exclusively until getting into my previous M5, I could never go back to DDing one, even though it sits in my garage.

I’ve gotten used to the low center of gravity of a sedan, and could never go back to some thing so unwieldy that can roll over, or, be put on two wheels so easily after getting used to spirited driving in the M5 regularly. I do miss the interior space/“living room on wheels” feeling, though. X7 is fantastic for that.

Debating on trying to see the Lightning Lap day during that week too. Gotta take too much time off work.

For what reasons is the CS no longer an ideal daily driver for you?

Lots of little things, but the biggest are probably the seats and that I just don’t use the car they way it should be used.

My commute is less than 5 miles. Plus, having it as my daily driver is just stressful. Always worrying about where to park, hitting the curb pulling into a spot, etc.

I feel lucky to have owned the car for 2 years and I’ve truly enjoyed it. But now it is time to move on.

Yes, I agree the M5 CS is an engineering marvel and I thank the M team for making it. That said, the M5 Competition is a much better daily car and it will only be a short time until the M5 wagon comes out for you to enjoy.

What tire pressures are you running with the corsa’s? What pressure do they start falling off?

In order to keep them from exceeding 40 lbs while at the end of the session I have to start 26-28 psi.

They start getting sketch at about 38-39, depending on track temp.

Well gang, it’s been fun! But, I sold the M5 CS today. 2 years and 14,000 miles and it was spectacular. In my opinion, this car will go down as one of, if not the, best BMW ever made.

Picked up a ‘24 X7 M60i. Going to enjoy some comfort for a couple years while I wait for the M5 Touring.
