What I'm trying to say is that gearing, rpm and tyre profiles dictate a theoretical maximum speed. Engine power and air resistance determine how close a car comes to achieving that.

A 350HP 335d can only pull to 175mph. Standard 335i i dont think would pull 180.

Looking at it logically: 320i does 142mph with 170hp 325i hits limiter with the same 218hp output as the 530d - which we know actually maxed at 156mph. 330i has 272hp 335i has 306hp So the 14mph change from 142-156 needs an extra 48hp. I've just done a little spreadsheet factoring in air resistance as the square of speed to see how that 48hp would be split up. In theory, 142-143 would need 0.047hp, but 155-156 would need 9hp. If you extend that to the higher speeds you get the following: 272 hp 330i = just over 160 mph 306 hp 335i = just over 162 mph Sort of makes sense that way, but I've read lots of posts where people claim to have gone faster than that. Also .. that would only get you 165mph for 350hp |

A 330i will close in on 160 im quite sure. Mine is only doing 4100 at an indicated 162-163 (off the clock). Ive got a good 900rpm. It would never pull to that without major major HP.

That 330i is only 14hp less than mine yet mine got to 155 alot faster.
NFS nice calcs, and your prob right. If a remap gave my car any decent upgrade (which it doesnt), i would get it and delimit it same time then i couldve found out for sure because although NFS predictions seem very true, the car didnt struggle at all and seemed to have plenty more to go. |

The 2.0FSI has 180PS and will do 148mph Extrapolating from there .. the S5 has 354ps, which I reckon makes it good for around 179 mph. |

TTS doing 304kph Damn, i def want this guys mods on my tts. 189mph from a 2.0litre engine is crazy (bare in mind, 'real' gps speed would be little lower) |

Given it has 343bhp, I was able to see 170 leptons on the speedo, but only 161 leptons on the GPS (i.e. true speed). The speed increase from 155 to 161 was very gradual, and given another few miles I am sure it would have crept up to 165mph. Interestingly, at no time did I hit a speed limiter. I think realistically, you'd struggle to get a true 163 out of a 330i. Also, all these You Tube clips of speedo's, most over read by a good 10mph plus at those sort of speeds, they just can't be trusted to give an accurate reading.
