SCOTT26 did say in this post that the M2 would be influenced by the M235i racing design. These new pics show the similarities between the cars, with the extreme body panels and fender flares. The M2 is going to look fantastic.

It's what is underneath that counts first , final definition as in body work , details and styling comes later. I thought everybody would know this by now... We did not see a final prototype with the final body till May 2010. The car is influenced by the M235i Racing in its styling because it is in the genes of the compact BMW from the 2002 Turbo to the E30 M3. Its definition also makes it stand out from the M4. The M2 will launch in 2015. And be on the market early 2016. Here are some pics of the M235i Racing and the new pic. |

I know they are shaped very differently, but these latest pics give me a bit of a similar vibe to the back end of a 911. Which is a very good thing. Edit - And by the way, it looks like the front wheels have quite a bit of negative camber... I hope that makes the production cut as well : )

I guess what they are saying is imagine the Vision GT6 without the intake, and a smaller flare, and that is what you get.

That strange gap on the latest pics at the top of the front wing looks in an identical place as the start of the vent on the M235i racing front wing...

I was thinking the same thing. If all of this analysis turns out to be even half correct, this car is going to be radical looking and a huge departure from big brother M4.

To me the M2 fenders look A LOT like the M4 fenders. Almost exactly...I don't see much of a departure.

You know the problem with this seems to be the more we think we know the less we know.
BMW is stringing us by our enthusiast balls right now. Going to be one hell of a happy ending though me thinks. |

If that's what's lying beneath, it explains the camo panel shapes: hiding the 'closed' crease + makes sense design-wise to distinguish from all 2er and practical to bridge the wider track with a more pronounced fender. Could be a new cue for future ///M cars too.

Other point to note: on the rear bumper the camo wrap abruptly stops in a semi-vertical straight line ...exactly where the GT6 air vents are located.

Also a semi-vertical line on the camo on the left side.
Kudos to the BMW camo guys for the camo job done. So, other Easter eggs noticed on the rear bumper ?

Good spot, I see it. Now, I wonder if the M2 will have vents that are part of the rear bumper like the Vision, or if there will be additional, separate vents above the bumper fascia. Seemed like Scott had hinted towards 1M type rear vents, and I think they may be like the 1M vents, but extend into the rear bumper fascia like the GT6.
