Why would they bother doing this for $200? Seems ludicrous.

I've noticed dealers in Australia add 'Permaguard' paint protection to stock vehicles.

They quickly stopped doing this when people refused to pay anything extra for it.

This is low rent egregious behavior for a higher end marquee to be doing. I'm surprised you didn't get those plastic rain guards over each car window.

I don’t know - I think the etching looks pretty good with that hideous gold trim. 😂

Excellent suggestion, but I might be too miffed to go for it myself. What a rotten dealer move on a special edition car. Unbelievable.

What does putting a phone number etched in your collectors edition of a $130k car even do? I mean who would call that phone number? Or are you the owner supposed to write it down and use it if someone takes a window or your car? Never seen anything like that?

I thought this was going to be more along the veins of op picked up car from dealership and someone spray painted dick-butt on his hood...

Vandalism I feel was being a little extra lol... I think it's grimey and foolish on the dealerships part to try and force people into a particular service, yes... I don't think this is vandalism just a really poor decision making by the dealership on a limited car... Glass etching, I feel like there are ways to get around that as opposed to something like drilling holes in the body of the car...

I didn't take my original individual ordered car for a plethora of reasons, but a lot had to do with the ONE thing I asked for which was - please don't drill holes in the front bumper or I won't take the vehicle...

OP, I see you're in Chatham and in your first picture has an Open Road sign so you must be referring to Morristown BMW. I can't stand that place ... corporate owned sleeze balls. I moved my business to Flemington BMW three cars ago and couldn't be happier. It's a bit longer drive from Basking Ridge, but worth it to deal with a good, family-owned shop.

Spot on! Wish I had known earlier. I might ask you for a contact at Flemington. Still waiting on BMW NA...

I would be pretty upset about this too. Glad you had the will power to not give in and actually walk away for now.

I remember when I first bought a BMW, I was scammed into signing the deal and only to notice they included wheel locks. Keep in mind I had the ugly standard wheel. He had the nerve to tell me if you park on the streets, people will steel your tires and wheels...

Regardless, good on you OP, hopefully BMW NA gets to the bottom of this. Overall, I feel like corporate really needs to get their dealer networks to fall in line.

On a separate note, I called BMW Morristown to inquire about being out on the list for the M2CS. From what I recall, I didn't get the warm fuzzies

It took every bit of will power to walk away. I wanted this car badly. Glad I did.

BMW NA has to have some basic expectations of their dealer network. This kind of behavior is expected at a cheap used car dealer, not at a dealer representing BMW. The lack of research about dealerships on my part was a mistake. If this was a legit add on, offered optionally and installed with customer permission, maybe that's ok. This forced window etching without customer consent is a straight up scam.

Good, hopefully they learn. “Low-rent” is a great way to describe that.

Why not ask them to change the windows?

I would be pissed. Two things I would tell BMW NA via certified letter to the CEO.

1. Request that they order/find you a new car of the remaining 34 coming to the USA. If this takes more than a month to accomplish then remind them that they should compensate you accordingly. BMW NA/ED compensated me for a screw up on import paperwork which resulted in a lengthy re-delivery wait.

2. Push BMW NA hard to take the car from the dealership as to not grant the dealership the ability to put a huge markup on a "Limited Edition" car and be rewarded for their behavior.

It's more of a metaphor and if I were in OP's position I would feel the same... x degree of vandalism

This and one other "security" feature was added my 2020's build. I told them I didn't want either and they removed them both (ghost tracks or something similar as well as the etching). Since they hadn't started the work, it was no issue but the fact that they added it by default does seem shady.
