iphone not fitting in the tray?

So I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max with the apple leather case, it will not fit perfectly.

Are you all having to remove the case?

The excuse I got from an executive at bmw was "phone sizes have grown since the design on the wireless charging tray back in 2017." My retort was: car was refreshed in 2021 whats the excuse there? Didn't get a follow up response from this in person interaction lol

Get the Shrinkage App, it reduces the size of you iPhone by 20percent.

It just barely fits without a case. You have to push it down or it won't charge. It will get hot if it sits there for hours because the connection is loose. I've been dealing with this since my '19 M5C. Probably going to switch to the smaller phone when the new one comes out.

LOL even the basis of the excuse doesn't make sense! The iPhone X released that year in November was 5.85 inches diagonally for the screen (plus the bezel!), and there were numerous Samsung devices nearing 6.1 to 6.2 inches on the market.

Yup, plenty of big phones back then too, but hey if we look at the design stage which probably started in 2016, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for that... but the lci? Come on lol... heck even the new i4 doesn't fit phones what's the excuse on that one lol

Plug it in the port inside the compartment between the seats and leave it there. Use it hands free while inside the car. Charges quicker and is much better solution while driving.

You're right. Perhaps it would have required a redesign of a significant number of surrounding parts to accommodate more space. Annoying nonetheless!

Ha. I'm going the other way, mini to a max. I got the mini when my brain was 20 but my eyes were 53.

Happens on wireless chargers in Porsches and other car makes too. Not sure where the fault lies but it's a horrible experience on the iPhone when it turns off from heat while giving driving directions.

I have mine on wireless mount next to the iDrive. And love it. Originally had on an apple MagSafe but the magnets were too weak and the phone would fall during larger bumps. Now I use a Mous magnetic mount and never dropped once. Got a 6" usb cord to plug it in so I don't have any dangling unsightly cord too.

Can you post a pic of where/how you've set this up?

My phone fits - but I hate wireless charger port.
1. Slow
2. Heats iPhone 12 up too much

USB port charges the phone faster so I put the phone in perpendicular.

If taking the case off makes it fit, then that's what you have to do if you want to use it but I imagine a lot of the larger models wont fit even without the case.

To the person asking about the refresh:
1. It seems BMW, mostly updates the headlamps and taillamps with other minor exterior changes.
2. Do they do anything major interior wise such as making the charger port larger? I know the dash changed to FULL digital but the size remained the same - so changing one component wasn't massive PLUS the Jahre models had full digital dash in 18,19 pre face-lift if you didn't know.
