Roof rack molding

The roof rack molding has been known to come up on the CF roofs

The anchors that the molding clips into is just a bracket that is fastened to the body with 3M molding tape, but they must have had a bad batch of molding tape because it simply comes loose.

Easy fix.
Pull the molding up
pull the loose anchor bracket off
pull the molding tape off the bracket
replace with nice new strong molding tape,
clean spot with rubbing alcohol let dry a min.
and replace

problem solved

Let us know how long it lasts.

Mine lasted one week after full replacement.

I only had to re-adhere the back anchor closest to the rear window on the passenger side. Still holding good. I'm sure cold weather is not nice to this, but warmer weather is.

three inch sheet rock screws should do the trick.

This happened on my 22 and 2 trips to the dealer under my ownership and I think 3 more under her new owner. Passenger side.

Now it’s happened on my 23. Drivers side. Have to say this steams me more than it should. Six figure car and bmw can’t even keep the godd@mn parts from flapping in the wind.

I’ll fix it myself this time so I know it’s right but sheesh.

The adhesive on the RR molding is a definite weak spot. Mine came from the factory with the passenger side rear not staying adhered. Had it in for repair 3X before they finally replaced the whole trim piece and now it sticks!

Well since I am out of warranty.
I suppose I will just lift it up and pile on some nice PL Premium construction glue under it and put some dumbbell weights on top till it cures .

Mine lasted about a week as well. I try not to look at that spot on the car because it annoys the hell out of me.

So last time I repaired it. Wait for it.

I took some sandpaper to the roof where the tape goes thinking the tape needed better bite.

That lasted a whole 45 days. Had to repair again last night for I think the third time.

I’d just duct tape the damn thing down but my paint is so slick from my ceramic that even tape won’t stick to the car. Looks like a three inch lag bolt should do the trick.
