Was it a BMW mechanic who told you this? I’m certainly no expert, but I can’t imagine that would be required at all. There are several of us on here and in many other places who have made this simple swap in various BMWs and I’ve never seen “tune” ever brought up. In fact, I’ve never heard of anyone needing a tune for installing a full on aftermarket intake. But, I’ll let someone more qualified than me to confirm or contest this with the proper mechanical rationale.

I literally just installed my BMC filters last week. I also took out the black charcoal filters as well. Its a well known mod that most people do to allow more air. I hear a bit more sound from the intakes now but you wont really feel a difference.

You wont have any issues and you definitely DO NOT need a tune. Change them out in full confidence.

Also here is the best DIY for it- takes about 40 minutes and no issues:

Goodluck!

I'm more curious to why you bought something you didn't know whether you could use? Usually you ask questions first, then buy.

To answer your question, yes it's just a a stock air filter replacement. No tuning is required.

None at all. You could actually just take off the charcoal filters and leave the stock air filters in there.

I think a tune would compliment the BMC filters.

When you say you took out the charcoal filters and installed the BMC filters, do you mean the BMC filters are a replacement for the charcoal filters? I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I was under the impression that the BMC filters replace the charcoal filters. So if I order BMC filters I only put them in and remove both the OEM air filters and Charcoal filters?

You can remove charcoal filters regardless. That was the first thing I did. Only later did I swap BMCcfunters in place of the stock filters.
