What sold me on the M5 and why it may be helpful for you.
Hey everyone first post. Great to be apart of it. I just wanted to share my story on why I chose the M5. Many people might find to justify that amount for a car but if your interested I’ll share my story…
I daily drive a truck. It’s part of my job and it can do anything I ask of it. I absolutely love it. However I felt I was missing something. Something that would give me excitement when I open the garage and go to dinner or whatever. So I started my search. I’ll break down each car I drove. My first love was the McLaren GT. I drove it 3 times, put a down payment down and was sold. The car is stupid fast, sexy and is a show stopper. However…the more I thought on it…it’s not practical for me. I have a family and no I’m not going to have chips in my car and kids stuff but I want to live too. Ultimately the car is too flashy for me. I honestly felt like a dick head driving it. I don’t want to live that kind of life but that’s just me. Lastly to pay 200k for a car that doesn’t have apple car play or really any tech just felt stupid. Porsche 911 carerra 4s. I love it as well. I drove it twice and it’s super quick and loaded. However I felt like I was dentist on my way to work. I felt dorky. I’m a 240lb 6-4 American lol and idk…maybe it’s too old for me. Cadillac black wing. I’ll make this short. I would kill myself in this car. Too much power for rwd and the back end always wants to dance. I don’t care what car and driver says. Unless you are a professional that car is dangerous. The M5. I walked into the dealer really just to see what it’s all about. They had a 2019 M5 for sale (which I did not buy). My first impressions were that it’s cool looking and what not but how quick can this grocery getter be…I mean come on…. 4 doors …not crazy styling. The M specialist said let me take you for a drive before you drive it. That was an interesting approach one that change my view. I got in and I noticed when we left the lot his hands on the wheel were like we were in an F1 car…I was thinking Wtf is this guy going to do. Then he hit it. The car took off in a way that you all know but I will never forget. The awd planted the car and took off like a missile…like a fat missile lol. I was blown away. I couldn’t believe the power the car had while it can massage your butt! Insane!! I order one after the drive. I was sold. Long story short…I didn’t want the craziest car that was loud and in your face…I thought I did but I didn’t. The ability to grab something from the store and go 0-60 in 3…take my money now. That’s my story…and I’m sticking to it. |

It's the best balance of vehicle that I can afford. I never cared for cars at all and was happy driving beaters up until I first saw the marketing for the M5 Competition and that Frozen Grey. I was mesmerized. Now I like the M8 Coupe, but by the time it's option'ed out, I'm beyond what I can reasonably take on financially, and if I could, I'm in an area that includes a whole different class of vehicle... like a Panamera. Porsche has never appealed to me, but these Panamera's I've been seeing driving around lately look really sharp.

Yes, the M5 story that never gets old. This is the best car in the world for me. I need a car that I can take clients out during the week comfortably, and canyon curve the twisties on the weekend. Perfection

Great story - you made the right choice. I wouldn't be caught dead in a frumpy Panamera - there is a quicker M5 for every Panamera and the Taycan is likely the future of the Porsche sedan.
The AMG GT is a worthy competitor though and looks the part. |

Welcome aboard! After selling my '18 CTS-V last year I tried to secure a Blackwing and waited for 4 months to get an allocation. After seeing what others were going through along with GMs tomfoolery, I ordered my M5 instead. It was built and delivered to me 6 months later. My local Cadillac dealer decided to use their allocations for '22 for stock orders that they could mark up $20k and subsequently completely ignored me and my order. F GM and their shyster dealers, seriously. Anything I asked for at my local BMW dealer was met with "yes Mr. B, as you wish."
I love this car so much. I didn't even test drive one before I picked mine up as there were none on the ground. The first time I drove an M5 was when I pulled mine out of the showroom! It was everything I expected and more. Enjoy it! What's your spec?

Great write up! I'm going through this process now, and have crossed some of the same cars off my list.
Did you look at the Taycan? It's down to that and the M5 for me . |

Welcome! I've been through all of the same searching, as others have said, similar feelings. The (now correcting) insane used trade market has had me through 6 different cars since 9/20, including an RS5 Sportback, RS7, and two M5's, hah. With everything on the market, for the price, for everything you get, for the driving comfort/tech/performance/peak ICE awesomeness combo (for a four door sedan)...I always come back to the M5C, it's an excellent platform to drive as-is and to build on, you won't be disappointed.

Well said OP! This car hits all the marks. I can't see myself getting rid of it. I may add to the collection someday but I don't think it'll be replaced.

Lol easy. That black wing is amazing. And in some areas exceeds the M5.

Driving home today I just can't but realize how well planted and smooth this car is. It's very refined and a pleasure to drive. Love the gesture control and voice navi. The heated steering wheel helped this morning too since it was cold. My favorite part is we compete with lambos, hellcats, gt500s, ferraris, stock 911 turbo s. Etc. with just a tune. I have a 47k miles on the clock. I usually don't keep my cars long but, I'm keeping this baby for the next 3-4 years because my extended warranty lasts until Jan 2027 or 100k miles plus covers my tune and down pipes.
Does anyone else just take it out for a drive for no reason and blast the bowers and wilkins to take your mind off things and find a good stretch of road and just launch it? 😅💥💯 |

Love the fact the M5 is a sleeper … flies under the radar and is not in your face. With that said, it will bus you.
