Silly question?......

When exactly is my first free oil change due? Is it 1000 miles or 1200 miles? And Would I void my warranty if I did it myself? I know its free but I just prefer to do things myself.
Thanks.

Thanks.
Let them do at least this service—BMW treat it as a significant service and it may influence later warranty situations.

It can be anywhere from 1000-1499 miles, and definitely let the dealer do it. If it shows as not having been done in their system, it could lead to warranty issues.

If you really, really want to do it yourself, you can. You just need to keep receipts that show you bought all the appropriate oil, and filters, or some other way of proving that all the service was done. You would also need access to the software so the car knows the service was done, otherwise it will keep telling you, and informing BMW, that it is overdue. I understand your desire to DIY, I did a lot of mine on my M3, but in this case, it just seems easier to let them do it. There's a lot of "inspections" on the list of things they do. I generally let them do the scheduled ones, then I do my own halfway in between. And, as previously mentioned, it's 1200 miles, give or take a few hundred.

Thanks all, I will have them do it just to be on the safe side. I'll go in between 1000-1200 miles.

The car should tell you when it's exactly due (ie 200 miles to service etc)...also they only due the rear diff fluid and engine oil change on 2020s unlike previous years FYSA. You can also do it slightly before or after. Just schedule it as a "break in" service. Was an option for me on my dealers website.

Don't delay the first service. The break in oil and more importantly diff and trans fluids will have a high metal content and need to get out of the drive train asap, as it makes the fluid abrasive and have less shear strength.
