Quick SES Question
I just got my 135i today. I let my girl friend drive the car. She starts off and then stalls the car. The ses light then comes on and has remained on since. We drove it home and it drove fine and I have started the car 5 or 6 times since and the light remains on. Any ideas on this?

The check engine light could be related to the stalling but it could also just be a coincidence. Most of the codes are universal and will be explained by a little book that comes with any OBDII reader. Some autoparts stores will read and maybe even clear stored codes (I think Advance Auto does this). You can also buy a reader for as little as about $50. Mine is from Harbor Freight and will clear codes. When I first got my SUV, it kept throwing codes for the evaporative system which is typically the gas cap is not tight. It turned out to be the vacumn pump but it could be something stupid like that. It is best to read the code (and not presume it was the stalling of the engine). It is a very simple process that takes only a couple minutes - but you need a reader.
If it is a BMW specific code you may be able to get the meaning over the internet or you could have to visit a dealer. You should be able to clear it with a simple, cheap, OBDII reader. If it is something stupid like the gas cap, you can "fix it" yourself. If it is something more serious, you take it to the dealer. Without knowing what code it has stored, there is no real way to tell - although the engine running fine is a good sign. Jim

Yes, the mods came on the car when I bought it. I bought it from a really good friend and he said he hasn't had any issues. He said the SES has come on 4-5 times since he bought it and has been running those mods so maybe I'm just over reacting. It does have the O2 fix for the catless down pipes installed. I'm guessing it will turn off in the next day but if it doesn't then I'll take it by Advanced and see what the code is. Car still drives like a dream so I doubt there is anything wrong with it such as HPFP.

Just like my friend said, the SES light ended up going off on the way home from work yesterday. Guess I over reacted, but I just got the car and was getting a SES so I stressed a little. All is running well now. Loving this car!

That's...not normal. It shouldn't come on at all even with mods.

She's actually not a bad driver. She just hadn't driven a stick in a couple years since we got rid of her last car.

although it's probably not of any concern and most likely due to the catless dp's and dpfix, it can be annoying, i'm sure. if you want it to go away permanently, dial in the dp fix with some trouble shooting. put it at the 6 o'clock setting, drive 50 miles or so. if no SES comes on, it should be good. if the light comes back, move it up a notch, repeat 50 miles. keep doing this until you don't get the SES light anymore.
