The Autobild lap time for the M5cs is legit. It is the GT3 time that is of questionable source. BMWBlog click bait...

I think you are correct that the CS will easily find buyers for the planned production.
I agree. There is little competition for what the M5cs offers in terms of performance and practicality. The M4GTS went up against the GT3 in terms of price and could not match its performance with no additional practicality. Hence why it sat on dealer lots.

From a weight-savings perspective, it just looks like they made CCBs standard, slapped on a carbon roof and put in lightweight buckets. My memory is CCBs are about 50lbs lighter by themselves and I'm guessing the seats (assuming front and back) make up the vast majority of the rest.

Will be curious to see how the remap and chassis tuning play out, but ultimately comes down to what premium BMW decides to charge. My guess is it will be great, but not worth the money.

TWO Months later it will be worth half that.
Very true

yes, I tracked a evo VI, and it cost me £10k (~$13,000) in one year. New pads and discs every fifth trackday. servicing every 3k miles and a set of trashed tyres after the end of most trackdays.

However, I have brought the M5C to tow the 450kg/1000lb track car ... and use the 4wd M5C on track when wet or just for an occasional change.

... so I can see the appeal of the M5CS - though the discount would have to good, since its a niche market and so much choice at that price point - even the pammy turbo S tows.

For the M5 CS you can order it without the bronze wheels. FYI.

TBH I'm not in the market regardless. My pre-LCI comp will do fine until something truly new comes around, but..

What I don't get is the lack of clear branding/hierarchy with the colors and effects. How did they decide to go from

M550i with bronze-ish accents and blackout rear lower valence

M5 with chrome-ish and black accents and body color rear lower valence

M5c with black accents and blackout rear lower valence

M5cs back to bronzeish???

I'm not acting like the M5cs will actually look like an M550i to anyone who knows anything about these cars, but given the already "sleeper" look, what are they thinking with this accent lineup?

And people will still buy it. If people are indeed willing to buy the Panamera Turbo S for 180+k, they might also consider an M5 CS for 150.
Especially when the M5 is a better vehicle

154 lbs is taking one person out of the car, or traveling with less crap in the trunk. Get an M5C, tune it and be done, with enough money left over to mod it or lease an SUV.

This is exactly why I think this car is pointless. An M8 would be so much of a better choice for the potential buyer of this car assuming they want to stay within the brand.

I agree with the lack of differentiation between the models. BMW missed the mark. The bronze/gold trim is gaudy and does not fit a car of this caliber or price. Red calipers are a half hearted attempt. At the very least - stick with the CCB gold calipers. Carbon hood is cool. Jury is out on the carbon seats. Loss of a middle rear seat. Why? Probably added weight by putting in some sort of console.

I’m in the tank for M5s. Glad they built it - but - won’t be buying it.

Let me put it another way. If you start with an M5c and take a grab bag of front stabilizer, grills, mirror caps, and wheel colors from lower models it will be more like an M5cs than you started with. It just doesn't make sense to me. If they had made the M5cs with all carbon from the factory, with carbon (I mean, Ford can do it) or magnesium wheels or something a little more exotic that would be one thing, especially with the price we all know they're going to charge.

That runs into its own issue of the cs looking like the standard IND / M stuff added to the M5/M5c... but I think that's a better problem than sharing too close of a color scheme with the M550i.

Makes me wonder if M5 drivers who hate on the M5CS are just jealous that there is a more unique variant coming out and they don't have it.

Happy New Year, John. Enjoy the M5 you have!
LOL will do, enjoy the new year, lets hope it's better than the one just gone.
All my M5's have lost loads, not bothered to much.

a) I think it looks great and is still viable as an executive daily by not looking like something from the fast and furious.

b) The main concern I have about the CS is the price. That it will find the faith of being a garage queen in a rich man’s 20 car garage instead being a driving enthusiast family man’s ultimate M5. A car that drives a lot like a sports car but works great as a daily. Further add to the price with bling will not help.
