To settle the RC VS JB debate is simple, scoreboard, suckers. There's no 10.2 1/4 or close on the RC plain and simple

yea, but I think Racechip is a good solution for the normal guy who just wants a little extra power without getting crazy. I mean, that's what I have done on a few cars. Others I went full on nuts on..haha

That being said, JB4 is capable of being a basic 2 wire solution like Racechip or it's has some crazy power you can unlock as well. It speaks for itself. limeypride is 100% stock and has run multiple 10.3's

A couple guys have gotten under 10.3 stock as well and even one guy got just under 10.2

When I was running JB4 I ran 10.15 on map2 and many runs under 10.10 on map6. My car does have FBO's though.

How long does it take to completely remove the 2 wire jb4 device and connections so that there is no hardware on the car?

Exactly the same time it takes to remove the RC. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Before my back/neck went, I could do it in about 15-20 mins. Removal being a little quicker.

// EDIT: I should've added that this was on an F06 M6 GC (S63TU), not my F90s. However, the differences are subtle having watched my (young) mechanic/friend do it twice now.

10 seconds to put the bypass plug in. That is all I ever did for service work. Makes it pure stock for DME updates by the dealer, etc.

I assume you're talking about the RC since, as far as I know, there's no hardware bypass for the JB... right?

I always set the JB4 to map 0 when going in for anything. No issues yet.

That said, I think he's talking about physical detection.

Yep. RC. Actually tried to get a bypass plug built for my JB4 because the SD (not all, just some like what happened to Quickburn) will flag boxes, but are fine with a redundant harness....as long as nothing is connected to it. Keeps them from being complicit.

So, I’m lazy, took the ten second option.

RadioShack no longer exist.
So making bypass plug out of 22pin parallel port connector is no longer possible.

Bypass plug is totally worthless. If going in you need to remove any aftermarket wiring harness or they will document it and deny coverage if anything comes up down the road.

TOTALLY INCORRECT. Believe it, if it helps your financial situation with JB4. But it is false info to ameliorate not having a bypass plug available.

Possibly your SD will deny your warranty, etc. with a harness only, could happen. But your SD isn't all SD's.

I have 40,000 miles of warranty work done with the SD knowing the harness is there without a problem. On multiple BMW's.

I also know my SD will flag a Box. Any box and it has happened on this forum.

If you want to split hairs, an anal SD can have the DME inspected with all physical traces removed and still find parameters beyond the factory hysteresis and deny warranty. Removing a box and harness does nothing to prevent that. Telemetrics also is a potential.

Just don't lump all SD's into one category. Some probably do not care even if you have the box on the car.

What is the point of leaving the box on, any warranty work they are going to defo look for over boost as they can see you had a chip on it, unless you know the stealer well.

Remove it, and they are going to have some other reasons to check for a tune, much stronger chance your warranty work is accepted.

It is wise to remove the box as a general rule.

You are the one sharing false information and we specialize in fueling products not tuning boxes. Most of our customers run flash tunes.

BMW service flags any aftermarket wiring harness that goes to sensors under the hood. They are trained to check for these harnesses. Whether there is a box connected to the end or a bypass plug makes no difference to them they know it's been modified. So do yourself a favor and remove the entire thing or don't be surprised when you find out you can't turn back in your lease or your car has been flagged. Maybe your SA is "cool" and not documenting your car as a favor to you but that doesn't mean someone else there won't or if a corporate guy happens to be at the shop when your car is there.
