F90 M5 vs Shelby GT500
Does the M5 stand a chance?
Cost wise, with the mark ups the GT500 is more expensive. I saw some dealers not budgeting from $175,000 even. M5 fully loaded costs less. If you do a lot of work and waiting maybe you can find a GT500 close to a fully loaded M5 price. Hp wise: 760 on shelby so M5 is lacking there Sound: no comparison, GT500 blows it away interior: here is where the m5 is 10 levels above the GT500 Practicality: 4 door vs 2 door...but gt500 is not gonna be my daily Which one would you get if it wasn't a daily driver for you? I would assume GT500 for most. |

They are apples to oranges comparison, but I'd still get the M5.
The GT500 is a faster car on any track (drag strip or road course) with someone capable of extracting its performance and the right conditions. The M5 is faster in the hands of ordinary people and less single-minded its purpose and a better all-around tool. I doubt most people are cross-shopping both cars, and they cater to different segments of the performance world. The GT350 was still one of the best cars to come out of Ford with a unique engine that makes it special. |

On a track you'll lose, on the street you'll win becasue that 760hp from light to light is basically useless like all RWD cars with a ton of power.

This is a individual choice depending on what you are looking for. I enjoy the M5 mostly for the looks and feel. I have no interest in racing on the streets or around a racetrack. If I was comparing something to a Mustang and wanted something more luxurious or upscale I would probably consider a 911.

Recently sold my 2020 GT500 (was my DD as is the M5) and bought a 2019 M5C. M5 definitely faster in the quarter, 500 from about 60 faster, but just added Carbahn Stage one and Dinan turbo pipes and will let you know. Sound of the 500, as above, is no contest. Rawness is great, but long trips it became tiresome, like you can't hear your cell phone above 70. M5 is a great car for a different purpose, but it made my wife happy and I can still run in mile races.
Most important, make yourself happy. |

You could get a GT500 and M5 CS for the price of the 911 turbo S.

How about this? How fortunate are we that we get to debate which is faster or better due to all the options out there. I’m going to celebrate that fact. Get the car or cars you want and go make lifetime memories. These right here are the good ol’ days.

There isn’t a situation I can think of where I would spend $175k on a mustang. What is that, $25k for the car itself and $150k for the drivetrain? That’s a hell no. If you’re looking for a 2 seater in that price range, go for the M8 coupe; luxury and performance.
