Out dealership had an m6 GC that sat for over 400 days, because it had a manual. People just don't want a manual in that kind of car, it's too big and doesn't fit its profile.
Sure there will be 1 or 2, but it's just not worth it to BMW anymore. Now the m2/3/4, that's a different story.

No surprise.
Now the question is, will the next generation M3/M4 move to DCT as the standard transmission and offer the manual as the no-cost option. This is how all of the series cars are sold. This would increase the base price for those who prefer the manual. I think we have perhaps two more generations of M3/M4 with the 6MT offered. The M2 should continue longer, and they will be adding a 4 door so if you want a manual transmission, there will still be options. |

when even the forum people know it's time to move on you know you really can't blame bmw.
their demand is 0% or so low that they can't justify the cost. the dct transmission has proven itself extremely worthy since its introduction in the e9x m3. i assume it has only gotten better since 2008, but it probably didn't need that much to improve on either. overall it does suck, but just like everything else we need to move on with the times. |

Very smart call by BMW... there are very few people with any significant amount of M-DCT time that prefer the MT. For these enthusiasts there are still the starter M's...

Makes sense to me. They gave it another shot with the F10 and people talked with their wallets. No sense shouting "save the manuals" anymore

I had an F12(new) M6(2dr) with a manual tranny. Slick shifting, smooth and responsive. As with as manuals it connects you with the car. I found the sluggishness was more due to the over zealous nanny kicking in. Turn it off and the car came alive and enjoyed itself. V8 rumble, a little tail wag in a GT. I only traded in as an R8 V10 MT came available. Still miss it though.

Yes but people still shout it whenever another model loses the manual option. They say its still for the M2,3/4 which is great but I'm also seeing a trend even with the new F series M3/4 that more people are buying the DCT over the manual, from people who used to say, I'm never buying a DCT.. manual forever, and here they are peddling around a DCT cause its just easier. Its unfortunate, but its the way things are going at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if more DCT M2's are sold than manual ones.

True - I believe about a quarter of M3/M4 sell with manual in the US. I would have expected the demand for manual on these to be quite a bit lower by now, but it seems to be holding up for some reason.

I'm saddened by all these comments. It stinks. I've hung out for years watching people drive at events. Most simply can't drive a manual properly. They suck at it. This is also why the big exotics all are autos. People can't drive. Too complicated for someone without coordination. Let's not even talk about driving fast and smooth. Impossible for most. The rich guy doesn't want to look bad.... Yes the tech I know.
Many a Ferrari were being brought back with burnt out clutches. No more! Professional drivers use paddles because that's all business related. If F1 went back to manuals many people would buy them again. Most "Pros" will prefer an old fashioned manual for their personal cars. (If they can find one)

I think they should offer a manual but in all honesty to me I don't feel a manual fits the character of an M5/M6. I would even extend that to the current M3/M4 having owned one in manual. The manual transmission is great on its own, especially with the rev matching. The gearing and the performance with a DCT though feels more suited for these types of cars. I always prefer a manual in a lightweight car, but don't feel the same about heavier/torque monster type cars.

I'll leave this vid here. If this doesn't make you want to get out of work early and drive your manual driven car around, might need to check your pulse. If only they actually made those sound effect noises when you shift, lol.

Maybe I should buy the current generation M5 with MT as it could be a collectors' car one day. A Ferrari California with MT recently sold for a lot of money.
