H&R springs... M5 or M550i?

Hey, placing an order for a set of H&R springs soon. I was originally going to order the M5 ones but some people are telling me the M550i ones are better. I'm on the stock rims but not doing spacers. I would do spacers later on if really needed(I'm also looking into building a custom oil guard based off the IND one)

Also will I be needing an alignment afterwards?

M550 H&R looks better if you like a more aggressive look; if looking for a more conservative drop go M5 H&R.

I personally like the 550 H&R's more.

I always do an alignment when I do suspension; I would wait a couple of weeks for the springs to settle before aligning.

I went with KW HAS.

The KW HAS kit allows you to achieve the perfect drop for you. Everyone has their own preference.

If you know that you will like the drop with M550iX spring, then go for it.
But, if you are not sure, invest in KW HAS.
At least you won't need to buy a new set of spring and pay another installation labor. Especially where you are at where labor are expensive.

How is the ride quality on the M550i springs? And correct me if I'm wrong- but doesn't the KW HAS kit allow for some minor adjustability to go as low?

I can't see it being of any value to go lower than where I am at with the 550 springs. You could have rubbing issues....But to each his I own I guess.

My car rides amazing. In fact, it has less bounce than it did with the stock springs. I am very happy and always have had good luck with H&R in general.

I'm also running 10mm spacers on all 4. No issues, no rubbing...

I would have gone the M550 way but when I lowered my car back in August with the F90 M5 H&R's I dont think anyone was doing it and I was not going to be the crash test dummy. So I have the M5 ones and the drop is much more moderate yet while I want to swap I keep looking at my car and realizing... Im just fine. The ride is practically unchanged with the limited changed in compression and rebound.

Up close the M550 drops the front and rear about 1.2 inches square while the F90 is about 1 inch front and .6 of an inch rear. His tire is closer to being tucked while mine has a finger gap or so.

You cant go wrong with either so its purely a subjective approach. If I had more intel personally on the M550 set up I would have done that but again I lowered my car on one of the first sets of F90 springs back in August. And to be honest, H&R did not post their drop levels correctly because I was under the assumption they would drop 1.2 square it didnt:

I meant that according to those who have installed the 550 springs and the KW HAS kit, the former seems to sit at a lower, more aggressive stance than the KW kit. Only reason for the KW kit seeming more attractive is the small margin of adjustability.

My question was- Does the KW HAS kit allow you to go as low as the M550i springs?

I couldn't imagine the car looking good or riding with any sort of practicality if it were any lower, aside from it not being my style to begin with. OEM+ FTW

Okay, good question....if I may? Are you going to go through the hassle of adjustments, or just have a spring set up that is shown to provide a nice ride and appearance?

Also, and I could be mistaken, but do you lose dampening adjustments with the KW?

KW goes even lower- guestimate is about 1.5 inches. You do keep the EDC as well (as long as its KW HAS).

Ive run about 13 sets of KW's in my life and while I told myself I could adjust the height and justified my purchases at times that way; I think I only adjust one car after the initial drop. I think 550 or the F90 is the way to go based on your preferences.

I think this last picture is the one that is selling me on the H&R F90 sport springs.

If you are more on the conservative side this is your way to go; I am not so much but like I had said it was done back in the day with no real intel on the M550i stuff.

Well, I really like the look of your car's stance. So much so that I ordered the same springs and spacers from Ben today!
