Pirelli to Michelin

Now that the roads are getting wetter here in the UK, the Pirelli's on my F90 are really not cutting it.

I am thinking about a new set of Michelin PS 4s.

Whats the general consensus on these? and how are you negating issues with punctures as they are not run flats?

I know you Brits don't do winter tyres, but that's what I would recommend. Both the Pirellis you've got now and the Michelin PS4S are high performance summer tyres that doesn't really like the cold and wet weather.
A set of high performance Pirelli or Michelin winter tyres will perform better through the cold winter months.

PS4S do more than fine in the wet; they are amazing. I have them on my M4 and M5. As far as cold goes the grip does drop off as you approach freezing and should not be driven in near freezing or lower temps. Letting the tire temps approach freezing is bad for the rubber compound and can cause cracks to form. So based off of that good luck choosing a tire for your vehicle.

its a tough decision I get the argument for winter tyres.

but then also the great reviews of the Michelins mean i can possibly get away with them in the winter months too

Everything that makes the Michelins a well rated tire goes out the window when the temp drops below 45. They're just not designed for that and perform poorly in the cold. I'd either drive a different car during the winter or get a set of snow tires.

Below 45deg F all the time, you are just plain better off with either winters or all season tires. It just is what it is.

I just went from the stock Pirelli tires to Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 this past weekend.

Here in NC we do not get much snow / ice but whenever the temps went before 50 the Pirelli tires lost a lot of traction.

The Pirelli tires are terrible in cold weather, I learned how bad they are the hard way last week and wound up in a ditch on the side of the road after hitting some ice/snow.

I have only had the Michelin PS AS 4s for a couple days but they handle better in 20 degree weather than the Pirelli did in 50 degree weather.

Was the road dry? Did the trip to the ditch cause any damage?

Edit: Never mind, I notice ice/snow comment.
