What engine mod next?
Hey guys you can see my mods in my sig line. I'm wondering what I can do next without adding a meth kit. I want to keep it just 93 octane. It looks like the only thing else out there to make more power is the pure stage 1 turbo?
Should I wait or is it worth 1500$ to get 20-30whp? I'm ok waiting just want to know if I'm missing anything. Doesn't seem like there is a ton of stuff out yet for B58

I believe you will be heavily limited on fuelling even with pure stage 1 as you are limited on fuelling on stock turbo as well. To take the real advantage for your car as is meth would be the best option. Others can chime in on the gains of Pure stage 1 on pump gas.

Isn't cost and install/maintenance in meth pretty high? Also is it safe for the motor. We're talking relatively obviously there is always risks with modding

I mean theoretically the concept of meth cools the intake charge which reduces chances of detonation. While cooling it also gains power. So yea probably one of the most safe ways to add power on a turbo car. The m4 gts has a factory meth setup....
"Snow explains, “On a simple level, it’s intercooling and race gas combined. When you inject water and methanol into the intake stream, you cool the air as the liquids evaporate. When you get into the combustion chamber, it slows the flame, acting just like octane.” The kit costs like $600 plus cost of the throttle body plate if you want it. And if you've installed the bolt ons and JB4 yourself, you should be able to do this easily. I read someone else say they go through a 3 gallon tank once a month ish. 5 gallons of boost juice meth is like $40-50 Last edited by Thisisdudewhoru; 02-04-2017 at 03:34 PM.. |

Also from my understanding, once you hook it up, put JB4 on the right map and set a couple parameters, the JB4 basically automatically controls it. From there on out, you just gotta top up the tank every now in then. Somebody step in if it's not as easy as I think it is.

It's pretty basic install from looking at the directions.
The dealer on the other hand may or may not notice it. Could wrap all the lines in black tape or something lol. |

Until they get the fuel unlocked I'll probably do meth myself. Have we even fully determined the limits of the stock turbo? Seeing as the stg 1 only currently jumps up 30whp. Imo it may be worth it to just wait til fuel is unlocked, Then just jump to whatever stage 2 will be depending on limits of the stocker vs the stg 1. All considering these motors hold as much as we think they will with closed deck and all. Honestly I'd be ecstatic with a very reliable 500whp car which is almost achieved already with the pure stg 1 and meth.

Agreed, meth or the turbo upgrade. That's pretty much it for this motor. If that's not enough, dump it and get an ///M.

As others have said. Fueling is the limitation...we haven't clearly identified the stock turbos limit yet. Until fueling is resolved upgrading the Turbo is a waste of money imo. Meth is the best option. Hopefully the fueling issue is resolved soon...
As for the Pure Stage 1....i don't love the option, for the money and the work involved for 20/30hp, I say wait until the offer something a bit more substantial that is worth it. A Turbo upgrade that could get us into the mid 500whp range with proper fueling is where I would deem a turbo upgrade worth it. For 30hp?? It's kind of bananas really...it's less than 10%, I say pass. |

0-60
Pretty happy just did 2, 0-60 runs. One with second gear launch and other with traditional first gear. Both about the same roughly ~ 4 seconds. I used a stop watch and started it right after hitting start in the video. Obviously not precise so no need to correct me. It's definitely faster than when I got it though!

Meth actually makes the engine run safer, the piston crowns run cooler, you have to worry less about getting bad gas, and the B58 motor has the most stout bottom end that BMW has offered in the N54, 55 and b58.
Meth will put you at about 450 wheel horsepower. Its HIGHLY doubtful that it will cause any problem in your car that would warrant a dealer visit thats related to the meth injection. It can be installed in your garage without a lift fairly easily and it is well supported by Terry and BMS. you basically install it and just make sure you keep the tank topped off. There are safeties built in to the JB4 so that even if you run the tank dry you won't hurt the motor. There is basically no reason not to do it in my opinion. I am doing mine once it gets warmer outside. |
