Wow that is some nasty shit in that video.

Good thing I don't feel comfortable backing the car out unless my belt is on

Jeez, just saw that clip. Wow. Seeing that sure diminishes any annoyance that seatbelt chime has, doesn't it.

I just picked up my car on Friday and that chime does have an annoying sound compared to other cars I've driven and I can't put up with more that 20 seconds of it. I guess its a way of getting me in the habit of wearing my seatbelt more. I guess BMW wants me alive to buy another car from them in a few years.

This is not a BMW issue. All new cars sold in the U S have audible and visible safety belt warnings.

My passengers wear their seatbelt or they get out and walk.

Let's complain about the stupid "No Smoking" signs at the gas pump too - another annoying rule.

Helmets for motorcycle passengers - what old lady came up with that?

That chime is there because the law requires car manufacturers to do it. Why must this be legislated? Because, left to their own decisions people cannot make reasonable choices - even when it comes to their personal safety and the difference between life and death.

Ah, to be young and stupid and imortal again.... nevermind that more young people are killed in auto accidents than anyone else. Sounds like your passengers are perfect candidates for the Darwin award. Personally, I don't mind seeing people killed that aren't wearing their seat belts (natural selection), but it makes all of our insurance premiums go up. When your "freedom of choice" doesn't affect my wallet have at it. When it does... laws get written.

I know how to get rid of that annoying sound:

Wear you Seatbelt. It could save your life!

I did a loan for a guy last week. He was struck in the back of his minivan by a young teenage driver who was trying to text message a friend. He was wearing his seatbelt his passenger was not. He is still alive his passenger flew though the front window and is no longer with us. To make matters worse the young girl had no injuries and she has filed a claim against the poor guy. Your only as safe as the drivers around you.

The poor guy? Killed his friend (who participated in his own death by chosing not to wear a seat belt) while trying to send a text message? Could have killed or injured others. At the least has cause others extreme inconvinience. No sympathy from me. He should find himself a nice husband in prison. Trust me, after the parents of the one who died get finished with him that's where he will be.

But your point is spot on. You are only as safe as the drivers around you allow.

I think what he was trying to say was the teenager in the car that hit the back of the minivan was text messaging. She wasn't paying attention and the accident was her fault. Now this teenager (whose fault it was) is filing a claim against the guy in the minivan??

At least that is what I'm reading.

Yes you are correct. The guy who was hit was not going to press charges because he did not believe in financial gain through those means, however he will now counter sue because of it.

What grounds is she sueing on? The fact that he didn't realize that she was an idot and that he didn't get out of her way?

He could not go into the details of the case, but she is bogus for even trying it. The system sucks.
