Questionable M5C Take

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I'm not saying that the M5 doesn't have some flaws, but this take doesn't correlate with my 2021 M5 Comp experience so far. Maybe the CBCB's were to blame for his opinion.

That is a weird take… was he not wearing a seatbelt? I don't understand how his most repetitive complaint is about slamming his face in the steering wheel under any form of braking. You couldn't pay me to take an m340 over an M5 comp.

Is this guy even serious? The only things he focused on are sensitive brakes and harsh suspension. Ummm… if he doesn't like these, get a M340i then as he suggested himself. He's clearly not meant to drive a M car.

You think that’s questionable? You must not have seen this one:

I own a 2022 M5 and I know why there are so many complaints from car reviewers who only have a short time in the car. It's the Lane Keep Assist. It is very intrusive and I never have it engaged in my M5. This safety feature causes the steering to feel weird at times and that's the main reason there are so many negative comments about the steering. I also have the carbon-ceramic brakes and they feel amazing. Nothing like he experienced. The ride in the LCI is softer because of the dampers from the M8 and I find the ride to be very smooth and compliant.

You could say I might have slight disagreement with the Road & Track reviewer.

Some of the negative comments arise from the fact that these reviewers are too lazy to get into the settings. If the lane departure assist was too strong, go into the set up menu and change the settings to low or off, problem solved.

Given my experience driving the same roads as this reviewer and every other review I have read regarding the LCI, I have no idea what he is on about regarding harsh suspension. In comfort mode, the car feels like a well sorted sport sedan, which (surprise, surprise, surprise) is exactly what it was designed to be.

The only issue he raised that has any merit in my experience is the brakes. My steel brakes are definitely a bit "grabby" on initial bite. However, it took me about a day to acclimate and now I don't even notice unless I am crawling into a parking space. For a professional reviewer, I'd say he has a bit of a long learning curve when dealing with new cars.

As for the review in "The Drive" which likened the M5C to a faster Honda Accord, I think that reviewer missed a few things. And yes, I have owned a Honda Accord in the past, so I can make a comparison. The level of comfort, performance and quality in the M5 is so far beyond the Honda, there is clearly a reason that no one compares them. Yes, the Honda is a reliable, safe relatively economical workhorse of a car, but lacks excitement. The M5C is a bit disappointing in that it could use more steering feel and feedback. Beyond that however, it is spectacular. Overall performance when pushed is amazing for a large 4 door sedan. At the same time, the comfort level for long drives and relaxed cruising is absolutely top notch. Yes, the M5C can putter along calmly like a Honda Accord, but it can also blow a Corvette off the road if you stomp on the go pedal, something no Accord will ever manage.

The M5C is not perfect, but there is really nothing in its price range (or below) that competes with it, particularly now that AMG is done with V8s at least for a while.

He apparently can't modulate CCBs. Dumb as a bag of hammers.

In the article comparing the M5 to an Accord, I especially love how the author indicates the M5 is only for people who don’t have the money for the 7.
Anyways I’m typing this in my 740i now, see you at the soup kitchen

Yeah, I do not know where this guy is coming from at all. The LCI is a lot softer than the pre-LCI M5C. I drove them back to back yesterday, and the LCI is a lot smoother both in suspension, and even in its power delivery and transmission. The exhaust is even a little bit less intrusive (I like the 2020 pre-LCI exhaust rumble more)

His problem is definitely with the carbon ceramic brakes, but as with anything, you learn how to drive certain cars. The steel brakes are not as grabby.

The one thing that I will agree with him on is that the M340 is a wonderful car. I drove it a year ago, approximately one month before I took delivery of my 21M5C, and was astounded how good of a car it is.

I still would rather drive an M5 any day, but the M340 is amazing for what it is.

Just another lazy, superficial review whose primary objective is to create controversy. This is what passes as journalism today. The media has been harping on BMW ever since the M5 E39 and M3 E46. Maybe BMW is not contributing enough to their advertising fund.

There's a reason BMW offers the M550, M5, M5C and M5 CS. Suits everyone's needs.

Exactly. My wife's last car was a M550i, and while that's a comfortable and fast car, M5 is miles ahead in power and responses. After we sold her M550i and test drive the M5, we decided to buy it right away. There's a reason why BMW created so many different 5 series versions.

Well they did take away the dedicated buttons so it’s harder to customize.

Hang on there just a dang minute buckaroo. I drive my wife's Model 3 all the time and it is a fine car in its own right. It also helps me to appreciate my M5C every time I drive it.

I just don't really take the opinion of anyone serious who probably drives a Kia or some trash 6.5 days per week. WTF does brake calibration even mean? Like if he said the M brakes squeak like a bus....OK, then he's talking my language.

I play ball once a week, too.....I don't go around telling everyone how Lebron sucks and act like I'm an expert because I play once a week.

R&T guy needs a driver upgrade, if he can’t figure out how to modulate brake pressure. I’m not a great driver, but that is not a rocket surgery type thing to figure out.

Honda Accord guy, I can KIND OF see where he’s coming from. This car “does” speed so well, and easily. It feels at 80 what many cars might feel like at 40. Just smooth and easy. And it can get there just like that. Smooth. Easy. It is overengineered. It’s German. But to say that it is simply a more luxurious Honda Accord? Come on, man. You can do better.

M340 brakes do stop but they feel like shit/mush especially compared to CCB's. Also too much travel on the pedal……
