Travis Scott Astroworld disaster

Thoughts?
I had no idea who he was and what ASTROWORLD was until I saw the mainstream news.

Basically an EDC style event or old school rave for Hip Hop with 10’s of thousands of people

Eh, don’t know enough but this world is full of fools who speak out of both sides of their mouths. Hold political figures accountable because they dislike them, don’t hold idols accountable for inciting deadly riots because they idolize them. And vice Versa.

Ultimately, idgaf if someone is pointing a gun at me, it still takes my volition to move and thus, I pine that neither drake nor Travis Scott wanted or forced the deaths. Regardless of what’s said.

But hey, someone will disagree with me in 3….2….1…

I had to look up what happened... and still don't quite understand it. I guess it was overcrowded and people started suffocating?

A LOT of people in a fenced off area, and then a majority of them pushing to the front, which equals people getting smooshed all together. The air gets VERY hot and heavy along with getting crushed in between people and or falling to the ground leads to injuries and or death. I have experienced this once at a metal concert, and it was actually kind of frightening not being able to breathe/catch a breath and getting smooshed between people and not being able to move/get out.

I'm getting claustrophobic just thinking about it...

Remember that thread a while back about fears? This right here is one for me. I don't like crowds of any magnitude much less 50k people stuck between barricades. I saw a video when the gates opened and people were running in tripping and falling. The people behind them would just step or trip over them. That should have been an indication of how things were going to move forward for the evening. It's still a very sad situation that there was loss of life.

Terrible news. It's just sad to know people are dying in a concert.

The crowd's were breaking past the barriers and trampling people. The event organizers and staff didn't even stop the event after ambulances already started coming in. The rappers are being sued especially Scott who has incited stuff like this before. This time fatally.

Concerts are dumb anyways, and I'm fine with the herd being thinned out for someone willing to put themselves in that position.

The really fucked part is they were basically kids killed that barely know better.

I don't buy his BS statement about how they didnt want to stop the show in fears it would make the crowd riot. Ive been at shows where people have been visibly in need of help and the bands have stopped or sent security down to assist. There was clearly alot of money spent on visuals for this show, I would atleast expect them to have the bare minimum security requirements..

I've been to a lot of different shows, and the rap/hip hop/trap shows have always been the worst as far as the crowds. The people are rude, disorderly, confrontational, physical, over-intoxicated. You'll get that with any show, but I've just found those shows the worst.

It's sad how society now-a-days is all about being polite and kind, selfless, etc and is largely driven by the younger generations, yet when it comes to their favorite artist coming on stage all of their give-a-fucks about anyone else go right out the window and they will literally do whatever it takes to get to the front.

I take issue with a few things that allegedly transpired:
-his lyrics specifically talk about if you're not getting moshed around it wasnt a good show
-allegedly 2 event people stopped the show to tell him people were getting injured and he went back to performing
-allegedly people/someone was stabbing attendees in the crowd with needles filled with fentanyl

I guess since I choose not to be in situations like this I don't have to worry but it amazes me how most of us survived growing up without any of these types of problems at concerts and shows etc etc. I guess I'm just old, get off my lawn

Agree 100% with this. Yet those who chose to put themselves in situations like this, avoid responsibility of their actions. Look at it this way, we got old because we were fortunate enough to escape from the stupid shit we did as a youth. Now we continue to live due to avoiding dumb situations like this.

How to you mosh to this type of music? My first concert was ALice In Chains, you know, proper fucking music. I was shocked how violent the crowd was, I am not a small guy but stepped back to avoid the chaos, just behind the pit.

I grew up on grunge and punk. I'm a pretty small dude and always avoided the pits, preferring to be right there on the edge of it. The one exception was a Cro-Mags show where I spent the entire F'ing night hugging the back wall of the venue for dear life.

A couple of things..

1. Travi$ Scott's shows are spectacularly designed and an incredible aural and visual experience. If you're into this music the concert is mind blowing (if it doesn't kill you from drugs, assault, or being crushed)

2. Travi$ Scott's shows are notoriously dangerous, the crowds are wild and the idea of "surviving" the show has been part of it's appeal. Lot's of different ways to get fcked up at his shows.

The Ms and I have three kids between us and couldn't believe anyone would let their kids go much less take them there. My daughter is 25 and joked she wouldn't get within a mile of that "death pit".

It's not an excuse for what happened and people should be held accountable but don't think this show was ever perceived by locals as a nice concert. His shows are anything but that. All condolences to those who lost there lives and the scores of others who are seriously injured. A buddy of mine has a sun with a broken shoulder and leg.

The front of the crowd is fixed (the stage) and people in the back are pushing to get close to the front. Eventually sections of the crowd get so dense that you cant breathe anymore, causing groups of people to fall down and get trampled on.

Ha, nice. I felt that way at a Ministry concert once.

Side note - just bought tickets for this show in a few months. Super stoked. Have been listening to them since the late 80's and saw then in concert back in the late 90's. They haven't toured in 20+ years.

I remember the circle jerks. I was more of a Misfits, Dead Kennedy's, Face to Face kind of guy.

If you saw the video of the crowds, they are fecking stupid. Jumping over barriers, in huge droves. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Feel bad for the victims though.
