That is some machine! Hopefully in a couple of years I can buy one for a decent price!

That is one awesome machine. There's not a single thing I'd change to that spec. Goes to show that BMW still has the capability to design great ///M cars.

4 bucket seats? Did the designers miss the brief? Personally the M5 for me is a powerful, fast, understated everyday saloon - making it less practical for the shock factor seems to be a step backwards IMHO. Perhaps CS now means they can do "Crazy Stuff"?

What a beast. Impressive weight savings.

However, the color scheme is atrocious. Green exterior, chrome, red interior trim, gold wheels, yellow lights. Hurts the eyes.

Yup - exterior is great, what they should be doing across all M lines, but the interior .... not on a 5 series, this thing is the same length as a Range Rover!

The M3 bucket seat saves 5 kg (11 lbs) compared to the standard M3 sports seats, according to this video (2 minute mark). I'd imagine it would be at least a few more pounds since the M5 seats are more customizable and have more features, so maybe 15 lbs. That makes it 30 lbs for the front seats.
I believe there is more to it than that. The 798M wheels also likely play a role. According to the press release, the true weight savings items are in the front and rear seats, CF hood, lightweight center console and reduced sound deadening that are exclusive to the CS, then weight is added back with front splitter and rear Gurney flap, this hardly accounts for 230lb. All the rest can be specced on a M5competition. It almost seems like they are comparing it to the heaviest spec possible M5. AM&S/SA weighed their supertest M5 at 4,193lb. I seriously doubt the M5cs will be below 4,000lb. It's interesting how they remain elusive about the actual weight of the M5cs...

I don’t see many M5s in real life, but when I do, they’re usually doing 10 under the speed limit.
You do know the ZL1 1LEs, R8 V10+s, GT 500s etc are in the 3700 lbs to 4000 lbs range. Most performance car are just heavy. Unless you start dropping 300k for 720s. This is where we are.

Removal of:
Through load system,

"some driving assistance"
CD player
Comfort access

Carbon exterior package: 7kg

CCB and lightweight wheels: 25kg

Carbon seats and carbon interior: 11kg

Removal of sound deadening: 14kg

So, out of that 70kg total you could save roughly 18kg by optioning your M5 (non CS) with the CCB option. The other weight losses seems to be largely exclusive to the CS model?
First, since when is Schmee a reliable source . And 70kg is not 230lb.

Then, the 798M wheels are also optional on the M5competition, so you can factor the full 51lb. Carbon exterior package does not save weight, it adds weight with the added front splitter and larger gurney flap. And having stripped a few cars myself, I can tell that 14kg is A LOT of sound deadening, I seriously doubt it is that much.

Don't get me wrong, I love the concept of the CS and praise BMW for doing it, but there's more marketing in that 230lb figure than there is engineering.

Since weight is such an issue here. Are you guys 5’3” @ 135 lbs? Most drivers will add 200 lbs, with their “M” driving watch, cell phone, drinks, AARP card, meds, M caps, radar detectors, leather wallet, weapon, Red Bull and other items. Why are some clinging to this not enough weight loss “false flag.”

What a gorgeous beast!!! Love The Ring in the headrests. BMW did this well. I get Ferrari/Porsche level interior vibes from this thing.

We have 3 F90 guys that track regularly at our local clubs. While a minority, there are still M5 owners that will enjoy taking their M5 to the track, and that's what this low volume M5cs is about. It's intended for a niche market. Those that have no intention to track it should not criticize the CS for being what it is and should just get a regular/competition M5.

I quite like it and the idea behind it. I am a little confused on the daytime running lights though, are they supposed to be white or yellow? Yellow would be a welcome sight in my opinion in a sea of bright white LEDs currently on the roads.

I wonder if those front seats will be an option on the M5 and M5C?

On the german configurator, they say it is lighter by 70kg, so yeah official figure about 140 lbs weight saving not 230 lbs

www.bmw.de

And price is 50% higher at 180k euro vs 120k euro the base M5. Crazy, not worth it
