I think its pretty strange that your sales person knows when BMW will have a fix but the 4 or 5 dealers/service managers that I have spoken to over the last 24 hours have no idea and are at the mercy of BMWNA.

I would push your sales person to show you something in writing. I am willing to bet he or she is trying to provide a false sense of security to make sure you don't walk away from the deal.

John,

All 2019 M5 manufactured from Jan 30th to October 30th are included in this recall. It just has not been published for current owners at this point. Once there is a fix this will be pushed out.

We are not able to take delivery on new vehicles as BMW has identified the issue and working on a remedy.

EDIT** I just realized that you are in the UK. I don't know how this is being handled on your side of the pond.

Wow! We have gone from February to Q2 in a matter of 48 hours. The left over 19s might be sitting of a long while

My SA told me February, and he was the one that brought it up. He wouldn't have an agenda regarding this as far as I know... The car has already been delivered to me.

As I mentioned previously, if parts are limited, I wouldn't be surprised if they have prioritized the order in which the repairs would be made, (if they've even got this far in the process). Probably (hopefully for those in this situation), they would make cars that have been ordered and are in the sales pipeline first on the list, cars already on lots would also be high priority so they can be sold if someone comes in and wants to buy immediately. If it is resulting in problems for a very small percentage of owners, they would make cars already sold and delivered lower on the priority list. Lots of variables, combined with whatever policies they are coming up with, on the fly, also have to be communicated throughout a worldwide company. So it's understandable that different people are hearing different things right now. It will get sorted. I know that doesn't help those that are waiting for their car now. I would be extremely disappointed if my 2 month wait for delivery turned into 4 or more months.

My dealer said it would be a couple weeks or longer. Anyone else experienced this?
Yeah, this happened to my car( June 2019 production) and was stranded in the underground parking lot of a shopping mall. Very difficult to tow it out, as transmission couldnt be shifted to neutral.

Eventually reached the dealership on a flat bed, and the short story was that transmission wires got exposed somehow and short-circuited, rendering the transmission unusable.
They fixed it though in a couple of hours and could get my car back next day
But if the cables were allright all they needed to do is place them somewhere that there would be no harm.
They said they needed to reinsulate them as they got exposed. It was an easy fix indeed, but my experience being stranded and flat bed was not easy
I don't get it... from relocate the harnessing, to re-insulate... further on to "parts to be ordered"...

WHO actually knows WHAT is going on?

We are having a spectrum from easy fix to replacing parts!?

Because of this harness issue, the transmission wires rubbed against something and lost the insulation, producing a short circuit which stranded my car.

Obviously in my case they needed to reinsulate the wires, relocation alone wouldnt have been enough

My question was more of a general nature... your fix was easy... there are even easier ones for those where the cables are still in a good shape... but I don't get those ordering new parts... I mean... if there's a broken cable... something should not work as intended... or at all... I just find the offered "solutuions" from the dealers strange.

How do you check this? I just leased a 19’ from another state two days ago, it’s supposed to be shipped to me next week.. hope it gets on the truck and doesn’t sit at the dealership for a while!

So I was purchasing an M5 off a dealer lot last week, then got hit with the recall the next day before I picked up the car. Based on all the unknowns, I just decided last night to do a custom order since the car on the lot wasn't in my first color choice anyway. I was told 9 weeks for delivery on this new custom order but who knows given the recall.

I think the fix would already be implemented at the factory. Should not affect new orders. In fact, you might get yours faster than waiting for a fix to a car on the lot, so good choice in ordering exactly what you want.
For the sake of everyone who is waiting for a car affected, I hope this is not the case.
