Passenger restraint system malfunction
So the car started giving me this lovely warning two days ago. Dropped it off at the dealership this morning, and the SA just called saying that they have to get direction from BMWNA on what to do next. Anyone else have this issue, and what was the fix? Also having them try and get rid of this annoying brake squeal while its with them.

Just had this come up and taken care of last week. They need to zip tie two wires under the front and passenger seat. They also told me the moisture was an issue as well but another thread on here said it's not a moisture issue.

Thanks guys for the responses. Hopefully I'll hear something today on the status. The SA told me that BMWNA has 24-48 hours to respond so it might be Monday before they get it back to me.
On another unfortunate note, they are telling me that there is nothing that they can do about the brake squeal. Seems stupid that this car sounds like a UPS truck when coming to a stop, but oh well. I'm patiently waiting on my new pads to arrive from ACG anyway. |

Welp, just wanted to give a short update. Apparently this is a known issue with the ABS sensor on the car. Unfortunately the sensor in my car is the one that is supposed to have fixed the issue. Now BMWNA has gone radio silent with the dealership on the next steps.

Just got off the phone with the SA, and apparently BMW is shipping an entire passenger seat bottom and SRS sensor. I was told that the sensor and seat are one unit, and the ETA from Germany is Aug 24th.

I had that warning last week, car was not wet at all. It went away at next stop.start cycle.
This is the issue with such complex cars, a sensor goes wonky and you have to worry about some actual failure in the car! Mike

I had this issue with my M550. First time they dried the car out (it wasn't wet but it did happen at a time when it was extraordinarily humid). Next time they zip tied a cable up underneath the seat. That worked for awhile, but ultimately error came back. BMW wanted the dealer to go back to step 1. I raised a stink, no way it got wet this time unless water was coming in from the outside of the car. Dealership went to bat for me and got a whole new sensor (a pad of some kind) and replaced it in the seat bottom. Fairly pricey repair so I'm told, they had the car for a couple days.
Been fine since then. |

For The inconvenience, bmw will give me a whole month payment credit and any set of rims and wheels from bmw. Pretty nice of them, wish they would offer exhaust instead since I already enjoy the rims it cam with

Not quite sure!!!! Best bmw ever though, Steve Thomas bmw is absolute the best. Have bought bmws from three other dealerships and Steve Thomas are by far the best ones, not just cause of this reason but just their overall kindness and not trying to screw you over. Being Family owned really Shows

Just dropped mine off earlier this week for the same issue. SA called back and said they resolved it by coding the fans on the seat to stay on a bit longer. Picking her up today and will report back.

Please forgive the rant here, but here goes... I am so pissed right now, I can’t even think straight. So I got a call from the SA, and the part didn’t come in today. Apparently it is actually back ordered now until October. After I unloaded an obscene amount of colorful adjectives he said that on Monday when the parts dept gets in he is going to have them enter it as an ICD (I think that was the acronym. Can’t remember because all I was seeing was red) which means that the customer is without their car. This engages the district rep for BMW. If nothing happens from this on Monday he suggested that I call BMWNA and express my displeasure with this as it can tend to help.

Service and quality control are on the endangered list when it comes to dealerships / service departments. If not for warranty work my car would be at an indy instead of dealer service department every time.

Like I said before they offered me wheels and tires but now instead they offering me MPE exhaust for free so your luck might turn around if you play your cards right |

My 2018 just got same issue this last Friday. warning came on 4 times, called the SA, got the car in next day (Saturday), he mentioned that he thinks it should be fixed by the wire tie under the seat.
will let you guys know Monday or Tuesday how it went. Its funny how the same problem just shows up in multiple vehicles same time... so far, i had the car shut off (fixed by SW update), and passenger restraint (part I, fixed by drying the car due to humidity), now i have passenger restraint Part II |
