I believe the F10 M5 was at 48% residual for 12k/36 months. So I'm guessing 12k/36 would be like 56% or 54% for the F90 M5. It's better but not great still. Still, that extra 2% discount loss from ED's on a 120k+ car is a big deal. Every little bit counts.

Again, especially if buying the F90, a 40-50% loss in value over 3 years for a car that has the same engine as the F10 M5 is just looney to me. Why would I flush money down the toilet like that to get into another car that has the same power and torque characteristics, the same exhaust note, and the same fuel economy as what I've already been driving for the past 5 years? For people who never got into the F10, it makes sense, but as an M5 enthusiast, well, you know. Such disappointment. :
The biggest selling point for me is the AWD. I am cross shopping this car with the X5M and the likes. The X5M feels like it falls flat on its face after 70MPH though, compared to the M5.

AWD is a big thing here in NYC. Our roads are complete garbage and we have lots of winter months were you definitely need winter tires and/or AWD to put the power down. I got rid of my M5 because I thought it was ridiculous to have a 650+HP car that couldn't put the power down on 95% of the roads on my commute or 95% of the time of ownership (due to snow/rain/bumps/potholes, etc.). If I'm paying for those power levels, I'd like to use them. I'm not the type of person that purchases a 600HP car just to say that I own one. It's about the driving experience. Similarly, the F90 is also about the ED experience for me. I had such a great time during the F10 ED trip that I'm willing to do it again with the F90.

My other option is purchasing the E63 AMG, which is honestly in the same boat price wise as the M5.

The car isn't officially launched till the Frankfurt auto show in September, so we will know more then. The CAD leaks and NFS promo shots give you a pretty good idea though.

If I had to guess the price, I would say it would be around E63S pricing, so between $100k to $105k base.

I's say more the E63 not the S version. If the new M5 was priced at the E63s it would mean a 20% increase over the outgoing M5.. at least in my country . I'd understand a 5% to 10% increase but 20% hell no ... time will tell

If we look at the equivalent price increases for the lower-end models, the 2016 535i had an MSRP of $55,850, and the 2018 540i Xdrive has an MSRP of $60,000, an increase of 7.5% or $4150 (both from the inclusion of X-drive and general price increases).

The 2016 M5 had an MSRP of $94,100. If the same increase happens to the 2018 M5, then we are looking at $98,250 (+$4,150) to $101,150 (+7.5%), so I am guessing $100,000 MSRP in the US.

Indeed, the Mercedes E63S starts at a base price of $104,400. F90 M5 will be similarly priced, but with same engine as F10 M5. So BMW will be charging people more just because the car has AWD now. Lol! (sarcastic laugh)

I believe Mercedes has been doing the same thing for years. It's all about profit. We M owners are going to have to accept it or move on to another brand until they jump on the same band wagon...
